Quote:By the way, I liked Cubit. I liked his commitment to the players and his commitment to the university. I also liked the fact that he dealt directly with problems.
I always wish him well and appreciate his contributions to WMU football and to WMU.
I liked that we had Cubit. Mid-career here, I figured he was going to be a Hawkins of WMU (sans occasional MAC Championship; maybe 1 and a trip to it a time or two over 10-15 years). It's unfortunate his time ran out in what he could produce. Not to jump on the bandwagon of 'sources', but several indirect 'sources' have told me stuff that made sense as to why KB let him go so Swiftly. Hitting a rut during the last half (4 yrs) here spiraled too much. It was definitely time for a Change, unless we were like a Kent State program and didn't mind calling a 7-6 year a "great year" or something, and call 4-8 merely non-ideal. Regardless, overall, he's a coach we should being giving a positive nod to when looking back.
Quote:Again...why are we reporting on Illinois and Cubit.
Because he's our former coach and now HC of a P5 we're facing. A winnable game. Why wouldn't be looking at it? Same reason we'll be looking at Braverman in the draft and analyzing his playing time in the NFL. Imagine if his team played us, right? This type of thing where your former (too hastily?) fired coach takes over a P5 you face doesn't happen very often.
Quote:It is interesting how so much time is being dedicated to following the Illini.
It's also interesting how Illinois doesn't play NIU, but we play Illinois regularly... and Fleck being from the state of Illinois, a possible hire there, again, facing our fired coach manning the P5 we face, who is certainly going to have a bullseye on our team to beat us -- much like Ray Finkle having a bullseye on Dan Marino for not holding the ball Laces Out!, as seen in Ace Ventura Pet Detective! :)
And in all seriousness, it's Offseason! We're going to talk about coaches, projections, and who we face next year. How could this not be talked about a lot, right? I think bashing Cubit isn't good, no. But people are going to talk about how it was a good decision or too-hasty decision to let him go, and how Fleck measures up. We should expect that with a Fleck vs Cubit showdown -- how could we not?! :)
