I saw on a TV salute to Abe that he and Betty White were both 88 when they made the commercial where they both wound up prone in the mud in a football game. He helped make the Barney Miller series one of the best comedies ever made for TV.

At 87, James "Sonny James" Loden passed away. When I was a teen in the 1950s, we listened to the most famous of his 16 consecutive #1 hits, "Young Love" (1956). He made his hometown of Hackleburg, AL a well known town during his time of fame.

On February 16, former UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali died at the age of 93. He was the UN chief at the time the Cold War ended, and we (innocently as it has turned out) thought the world was entering a prolonged period of peace. Instead it just seems to have provided room for smaller regional conflicts to bubble over and take over the world stage.
