Gee thanks, I'll cherish that for the rest of my life & will make my mother so happy that I got a ribbon.

Mother Angelica, founder and major leader of the EWTN Roman Catholic TV Network located on Old Leeds Road in Irondale, AL died today (3/28) in Hanceville from complications of a stroke. Her funeral services will be broadcast on her network.

And today (3/29) Patty Duke who played Helen Keller in the movie "The Miracle Worker" with the late Anne Bancroft as her teacher Anne Sullivan, died at age 69. Her son is Sean Astin with former husband John Astin.

CNN reports that Merle Haggard, "The Okie from Muskogee", has died from pneumonia on his 79th birthday.

Today's (4/6) NEWS obit (pg A15) announced the passing of Dr Virginia van der Veer Hamilton. Among several accomplishments she was former Chair of the UAB History Dept. and author of several books on famous Alabamians - most notably Hugo Black and Lister Hill - and the (U.S.) Bicentennial Alabama History Textbook for public schools. I was privileged to take Constitutional History of the U.S. from her back in 1971 while working on my MA (1972).

Prince really had a good year or so in '84 & '85.
That was my senior year in high school.

If it had not been for Johnny Sanders in high school though I might not have heard as much of his music.

Johnny was the biggest Prince fan around.

Alan Young, perhaps best known on TV as the owner and straight man for the talking horse "Mr. Ed" - while also doing voices for a number of animated characters in movies and TV - has died.
