I don't know whether the offenses are just that bad or the subzero temps prevented any semblance of offensive efficiency, but that was not a good game to watch. Hardly compelling. So it had a tense ending after 59:59:56 of yawner football. Bet Minnesota wishes they were back in a dome now.

RE: NCAA vs NFL
What is this thing the NFL players do when they gather together before each play? Are they trying to catch up on the latest gossip?

RE: NCAA vs NFL
I watch NIU games because I feel at least some connection to the team since I graduated from there, where I don't have that with the Bears. In general though I prefer the NFL because it's a level playing field (deflated footballs notwithstanding). You don't have some teams with 8 home games and some with 5. Playoff teams are determined based on the games rather than by a vote. Teams don't have 50 times as much wealth as other teams. The media doesn't discriminate against certain teams, other than the usual concentration on New York/New Jersey teams.

Yeah, the Jets always got more than their share of media attention despite their historic lack of achievement.

Jerry Jones and his Dallas Cowboys would like to have a word with you about media bias. They get a lot more attention than most other teams.

There's some of that but not as much as in college football.

The Green Bay/Phoenix game was an illustration of why the NFL is #1.

Phoenix? And I'm just messing around but come on, they don't even play in Phoenix, let alone aren't called that.

RE: NCAA vs NFL
CFB is an inferior product to the NFL, and it always will be. There is significantly more parity in the NFL than CFB, and anyone trying to argue that the NFL and CFB are similar in that regard is cracked. Awhile back, I made a thread about how I think CFB should evolve that involved a fixed number of the highest level schools, essentially delinking or greatly weakening the link between the FB programs and the academic institutions and even having a draft for the highest rated recruits based on rankings (worst teams get highest picks). CFB today is a joke. I have a very hard time getting into it outside of what my alma mater does. Frankly, I already know that the "fix is in". CFB is very much like MLB, where there is a distinct hierarchy that is largely in place forever; however, a smaller market team can make a short run for a period of time but will inevitably fall by the wayside while the perennial powers remain. Sooner or later, MSU and Oregon will fall back to earth and it will again be OSU, Alabama, Michigan, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, USC, ND and a small handful of others. Pretty much it.

Exactly!

It's not about how many hours/minutes the broadcast takes. A dull game that only takes 3 hours is still dull, and an exciting one that takes four hours is still exciting.

RE: NCAA vs NFL
You can't have an amazing play followed by three quarters of "dud" football followed by an amazing play in the last drive. That's doesn't make a good game, especially when refs and commercials drag it to 4 hours. The TV timeout commercials are ridiculous. Especially during a long drive with the clock running but neither team is scoring. Completely kills the momentum and rhythm of a game. Then you have the floppers, which is becoming an issue in this day of hurry up play and limited subs. You have to start penalizing that. You also have to start ejecting players like soccer after two personal fouls. Injury timeouts are a big deal and many times cause by personal fouls that stop the game. 15 yarders (besides PI) need to handled like yellow and red cards. I don't think taunting should be an ejection, just a ten yard unsportsmanlike, or 15 yards without counting as a personal foul. These are common sense things that should be implemented immediately.
