RE: Ooof.... Current conference rpi ranking
It's to be expected, really.

More than half the conference have abysmal records, and all our signature wins are pretty much stacked on one team. It's readily apparent that some schools in C-USA just don't care about basketball at all. The only way to really make them care is if something is implemented on a conference level, and, even then, that's long term.

Edit: I still think La. Tech has a chance for an at large regardless, but they can only afford to lose once or twice at most.

They don't give at larges to teams in the 21st ranked conference. The sad thing is that as bad as the CUSA teams are, they all have SOS rating higher than UAB's

SC Upstate has a better strength of schedule than we do

generally speaking 3+ bid leagues are the top 8. 2 bid leagues are top 12. Anyone beneath 12 only gets the autobid.

Wow, so much for getting an at-large bid if we win the Regular Season; we MUST win the tournament again!

Not to mention even the champ of the tournament will be flirting with a 15 seed

That's not true if one of the top teams wins. We got a 14 with a crap rpi last year.

If the Blazers win all of their remaining games, they will not be a 15th seed. Count on it.

RE: Ooof.... Current conference rpi ranking
If UAB or LT wins about 24 games and wins the tourney you will see a 11- 13 depending on who the losses are by season end and how the rest of the country shakes out. You wont see a 15 unless it is a FU or someone like that. Maybe a WKU or MTSU at 14 like UAB was.

Winning the regular season is huge in that it does get us an at large in the NIT should we falter in Legacy.

Without it due to our league RPI we would be a bubble NIT team.

Unfortunately I See one bid to the NCAAs, Two NITs at best and One to two CBIs or CITs.

The good news is the league has hit rock bottom and should improve.

Our current RPI is now 109 according to CBS. Realtime RPI doesn't look like it's updated for yesterday's win. We need Ga St to keep winning as they're currently at 36 and could give us a top 50 win.

I thought the same thing, until I looked at the rest of Georgia State schedule… It's as bad or worse than ours.. They have a big head start on us in terms of the RPI, however, so maybe they can still salvage a top 100 RPI by years end.. It would help if Auburn can stay top 100 and Illinois and Virginia Tech move into the top 100 as well

RE: Ooof.... Current conference rpi ranking
According to RPI Forecast, if we went 27-3 in the regular season we'd still only have an RPI of 51. Then if we went 2-1 in the CUSA tournament losing in the championship game we'd be 29-4 with a probable RPI in the mid to upper 40's with about 6 top 100 wins, but none in the top 50. Sigh...

At least we host the tournament.

Does the regular season conference champ still get the auto NIT bid?

We could possibly get in the tournament with that resume. I know our conference RPI sucks, but if we or LaTech had a good resume, we'd get consideration. Gonzaga and teams of their ilk have gotten at larges multiple times despite being in bad conferences. If your resume is tournament worthy, you'll get in.

As far as I know. I haven't heard that it's changed.

As I stated earlier, that is why it is critical.

Joe Lunardi released his first bracket projections of the new year. He has UTEP as the lone CUSA team in the tournament......as a 16 seed, in the play in game.....

RE: Ooof.... Current conference rpi ranking
Gonzaga does not play in a bad conference. The WCC will usually put two or three teams in the Dance. Stephen F. Austin is a perfect example of what UAB would be facing this season http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2015/s...n-F-Austin

The Lumberjacks finished 26-5 with an RPI of 35. They had three top 100 RPI wins, Memphis (89), and two wins against Sam Houston St. (95). They were also 0-4 against the Top 50. The Southland Conf RPI ranking was #29 http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2015/c.../Southland Had they not won their tournament, the Lumberjacks were headed for the NIT.

CUSA conf. RPI ranking last season was 16th http://warrennolan.com/basketball/2015/c...ence%20USA with 3 teams with RPI in the top 100 (ODU, La Tech, & UTEP ). It's projected to be ranked 21st this season http://www.rpiforecast.com/confs/CUSA.html with only two teams projected to have top 100 RPI (MTSU & La Tech). Even if UAB wins out and lose in the CG (on our home court), we would be headed to the NIT. CUSA couldn't get two teams in last year, we're definitely not going to get two teams in this season.

Exactly. Not to mention it's highly unlikely we run the table.
