RE: End of the Season Conference Power Rankings
I would throw UTSA into that middle group. They just played an insanely brutal OOC schedule that gave them no momentum and an 0-4 start. Hard to bounce back from that even in conference play.
The debate people seem to have here is putting Marshall at #2, even though most would likely feel that isn't right. The problem is Marshall was an inconsistent team this year. They had about a third of the schedule (against Southern Miss, Purdue, FAU, FIU, etc) where Marshall looked the part of a top team. Then there were a third of the schedule where Marshall's looked about as bad as they have in a quarter-century (Ohio, Kent, ODU, MTSU), and then there was a third of the schedule where it didn't matter how Marshall played because the result was basically going to happen this year regardless (Norfolk, Charlotte, NT, WKU).
Entering the year, I bought we'd be the team that dominated Southern Miss, curbstomped the Florida schools, and answered against Purdue. I thought we would see some inconsistencies, but not to the extent of putting up the worst QBR in school history and having probably the worst three game series in a season since 2000. On the balance, I think Marshall slightly disappointed this year, but I would probably rank them 4th due to inconsistencies behind USM and La Tech, though as we saw, Marshall was potentially capable of stepping up and beating those teams.

And if going 10-3 with a Freshman QB and a Bowl victory with the #1 rated defense in the conference is disappointing then Idk what to tell you.
I read these boards all the time and one thing I have noticed is Marshall fans need to get of their high horse and ENJOY the successful season they just finished. going 10-3 with a Freshman QB is nothing to sneeze at, and it should be celebrated. Sometimes I feel like Marshall fans have this mindset they should be going undefeated every year. Newsflash ITS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN. Matter of fact when was the last time a CUSA team went undefeated

I think the disappointment comes from the predictions at the beginning of the season. I do believe we would have a much better chance at the title and access bowl with what we had at the beginning of the season. Marshall lost more players this year than I can remember. Many were starters at key positions.
As for the attitudes, I think that comes with the 3 10 win seasons and two championship appearances. To be honest, is it a bad thing to believe your team should be in contention every year? I do not think that the overwhelming majority of our fans believe that Marshall is above the others in C-USA. I certainly do not believe that myself. It's just a mindset that comes with winning and I'm sure WKU fans believe that they should be in the same position next year.
Good luck to all the teams next year and lets hope we, as a conference, all get better and our conference represents the Great 5 in the Access Bowl.

Playing for a spot in the CCG the last week of the season is being in contention and I think a lot of Marshall fans should be proud

Expecially with everything from relying on freshman to carry the team to the injuries and dismissals. Also remember a good chunk of Marshall recruiting class didn't show up this year either
