I hope you're right but I have to think to myself - if I had that much money to spare, would I want to give it to someone who has been given every opportunity to succeed at the highest level and whose insane contract buyout was negotiated by some dimwit who will not be paying the buyout themselves? I don't think so.
Maybe it's somewhat easier to give when you're the one who OK'd the gold-plated contract to begin with ?
Yep. Somebody made a big time mistake and don't want to quite admit it yet. This is why I think we are stuck for another year or two.
Glad I don't know the details. I prefer thinking well of people who give generously to the school. I'd hate to think that one guy's ego is responsible for everything that's been going on and all the lives (players, vendors, fans, etc.) that have been adversely affected by it.

Yep. I'm not an insider. But I have been told to hope we have a good year, Josh applies for jobs again, gets one and leaves on his own.
Otherwise, we probably have to wait to closer to 2020, so his buyout is lower. It's just such a huge number.
Think of it this way - Maryland had a $50M fee to leave a conference. Which was lowered to the low $30M range, according to most reports. That's for an entire university to break away from the ACC forever. Yet someone is going to pay $10.6M (could be negotiated down, but probably not as much as some think), to make a coach leave 4 years early? Again, hope I'm wrong.
First of all, it is paid annually not in lump sum which would be negotiated down a good bit if it went that route. Secondly, whatever JP makes at another coaching job will be deducted from that buyout. So, 10.6M is unrealistically high. and I also am very appreciative of the donors who care enough about out program to contribute such large amounts of money to improve our University and thus, our City.

I hope you are right 450, but I'm not so sure.
If there is so much money floating around, why has it taken us 4 years to fund the IPF?...
Probably because there's not so much money floating around.
Exactly.
Yep, well known that 'some' boosters have lots of money -- but people on this board have a problem separating the idea of having lots of money and the other idea of giving lots and lots that money to other people. I'd think they're more selective.

Unless you have read the contract, in which case I apologize in advance, almost all of fired coaches payouts are monthly, not annually.
And do you know for sure that there is an offset provision in Josh's contract?
Regarding your statement "negotiated down a good bit", this is not like Bobby Bonilla's contract with the Mets, where he gets like $1.5M for 25 years. It's only 4 years if Josh is fired April 1, 2016, so there should not a huge time discount if Josh takes a lump sum payout. Is Memphis lowballs him, Josh just says pay me every month for 4 years. Lots of fired coaches are getting monthly payments as we speak, or type.

Things could change but I still think we're here for next season and probably the season after.
I don't think Bowen had much to do with it, other than biting his tongue.

Very true. However these guys recognize there's a problem, and almost to a man, they know there is only one way to fix it. And they will. It's a sort of rallying point for them.

Disagree...as it seems a lot more Mid-Major Hoop Programs (not P5) have been able to make Elite 8's and Final Fours (heck, Memphis did it too), than any non-P5 football program that would have a shot at the Football Final Four.
Not being in a P5 all-sports conf is not a death-knell to a basketball program, as its just the opposite for some (i.e. their non-P5 hoop programs thrive).
