Parrish-Two guys that could write that check....
Fred Smith - "he's a football guy and won't get involved with basketball"
Bill Laurie - "he is a Josh Pastner supporter"

What does this have to do with recruiting?

In addition to Fred Smith I would love to hear that Laurie is somehow interested in our football / Big 12 efforts. Anything?

Not that I disagree about spending money on football, but who do think had funded the athletic department for the last 40 years. Football is expensive, I could run the basketball program out of the trunk of my car. Football will never in my lifetime be in the black at Memphis costs too much, however it will cost more if we don't.

Pretty much what i thought. Bowen would be the guy who goes to the boosters and asks for buyout money and Bowen is the guy who gave pastner his current contract.
Things could change but I still think we're here for next season and probably the season after.

Fred Got involved in offering Cal the World when he was trying to leave. I don't want to hear he doesn't care about BB.

There is one booster who would write the check himself. As football, it doesn't matter how expensive it is. If Memphis can't get into a P5, then hoops will suffer greatly, too. No p5 means no big name coach and harder to recruit. Everyone should be hoping for P5.

Yup. If we're able to get into a P5 conference, we'll also receive a much bigger check annually. That money would help a lot in resolving some of our current issues

Don't need a booster to do it. Need to hire a coach who can excite the fan base and win back 2,000 season ticket holders in lower level/club donation levels. This pays the buyout and a $2.5-$3M yr new coach.

Fred is all about the football. Keeping Cal was one thing. All. Football. Now. And this is a very, very good thing.

And there are some who don't remember how much time and energy we've put into this already -- and succeeded. You know, back when it was the Big 6. But that kinda all fell apart, didn't it? But you're positive, now, if we can just get into the B12, it'll be a whole 'nother story, right? MmmmmHmmmmm. Maybe you're right.
And maybe the Big 12 folds like a pup tent (like a lot of people think it will) or maybe this prophetic apocalypse doesn't even happen or happens 25 years from now. That's the thing about the future -- nobody knows. It's all speculation. You may be convinced, just like you were about the Big East. And you may be wrong again. Then where are we? Memphis without a basketball program and still what we are now, a stepping stone, in football. Hey, but what do I know? I'm a basketball fan.
