The stands at the Ted were symmetrical, so I'm confused at what the difference would be? I believe they chose the N-S orientation so that the facilities in left field could be repurposed.

Yes, but there are more upper deck seats along 1st base line than 3rd base. It looks weird with a half of an upper deck on the 3rd base line. Whereas on the first base line they would have went entirely down sideline and around into the endzone, making all of the upper decks usable. As it is now, the right field upperdecks are probably too far away from the action to be sold as normal seating. I get that they wanted to use the left field club level, but the best use of the actual seating would have been to make the field down the first base line. ALL upperdecks would have been able to be used. Think about it. Rotate the field in your head.

There is no scenario where you would have a complete upper deck. The stadium didn't have one even at 85k seats for to the Olympics. I like the north/south alignment. I also like how it's shaping up. The only weird part is RF and I still say give it time. Hopefully phase two fixes that. Even so it's an overhead helicopter shot problem. When seen from within the stadium it all looks spectacular. I also do not think the RF upper deck is as far away as you think. Probably no further away than the upper deck in some stadiums like BDS up the street. You probably would have similar views from the upper corner of their end zone. Remember that this was originally an 85k seat soccer/football stadium with a track and a north/south orientation. We are restoring at least it in part what was already there. The great part is that Heery designed this stadium and built it and they are on this job as well.

As someone who has been there before with a stadium renovation, they’ll still be there on Aug 7.

As long as they are gone August 17th.

Every report is that even with the rain they are ahead of schedule.

Yeah, it's a great project. This is not meant as a major criticism. I fully understand why they did what they did. It looks great so far.

Also, the third base side of the stadium is the shade side in the fall. I am sure that had at least a small part of why the alignment was chosen.

Yep. Plus I am sure Heery considered things like field sighting and concourse and locker room alingments. As someone said, we are not just painting a football field in a baseball stadium.

Is it just the lighting in the photo, or have the seats been repainted? I know they were navy for Braves but they look more royal (a la Georgia State colors) in the pic.

It depends on where you're standing. Overhead they look darker blue. Driving up/down Capitol Ave/Hank Aaron they look closer to the posted pic. For what it's worth Braves blue is close to GSU Royal.

I appreciate the updates on the stadium Panama. As an Atlanta resident for 20 years I have several friends who attended GSU and pull for them when they are not playing my Apps. The stadium is looking good and I will check it out in person when the Mountaineers play there in November. Keep the updates coming.

For those in town there is a FanFest on Thursday Aug 17th. The first opportunity to see the finished product.

I was trying to imagine the finished product. The stadium seats behind the new field level seats on the scoreboard side seemed awfully far from the action. lol...Had to go find a rendering to see that they arent really part of the plan. Are they to be simply demolished, left standing or can they be repurposed? Hard to tell from the rendering I found. Overall---pretty cool redesign...and you almost couldnt get a better location for the school.

I asked the same question back several pages...here's how it works.

yellow -- new seats
red -- to be demolished NEXT summer (phase II)

upper deck stays but will only be opened for big crowds.

just the lower bowl and club level will be 24,000 seats.

feel free to make any corrections panama
