What would an email much less a meeting with Tanner or Shu (don't pretend id be able to get a meeting with the Athletic Directir) do to change that? Many more people who are far more influential than I am have expressed the same concerns and here we still find ourselves.

Therefore my alternatives to make an impact are continue to state in this very regularly monitored public forum that I think we can do better or go a way. What would you prefer I do?

Just because the product on the field is not up to par does not mean we, nor the athletic department, should ignore all of the other aspects of the Game Day experience. The athletic department is trying to be proactive and create an off-field product that is compelling.

Especially since the department has obviously not decided to part ways with the head coach, that is exactly what they should be doing - trying to get the house in order as best as possible, outside of the head coaching decision.

Forgive me, but that is like putting lipstick on a pig. If the product on the filed is not worth watching, fixing up the stadium will not draw folks in the stands.

I wrote Dr. K after the season that if a coaching change wasn't made, I wold not be renewing my season ticket. So, I did not get the survey. He has been silent about :Bailiff, as far as i know. One possible explanation for this might be that his desire to make a change was stifled by Leebron after the pr Luke Turner's story generated. I will continue to support MBB and Baseball but the U will have to show a change in attitude in football before I come back.

Bailiff wasn't retained because of anything Luke Turner said or because the university doesn't have the money to buy out his contract. Bailiff is at Rice because his bosses want him at Rice. He's a "Rice guy." He gets it. He does what the university hired him to do. Karlgaard and Leebron are in his corner.

Will you quit repeating this nonsense. I know Bucky A. feels this way about DB (as they are close personal friends), but not JK, and I very much doubt Leebron.

so you're saying you know for a fact Joe is not in Bailiff's corner? That's unsettling.

Do you know why he was retained? The evidence (e.g. DB still coaching) seems to indicate that JK, Leebron, or somebody with more influence than them, believes that DB is the coach for Rice.

Am I missing a more obvious reason?

03-lmfao If I had a dollar for every time you've said that Rice's wins have only come against teams ranked outside the top 75, I wouldn't have to work!

Thank you!
Reasonable questions, IMHO, with no "they must be kidding" multiple-guess response choices.

I, for one, would like to see what they asked and how it was worded.

Here you go.

Code:
Thank you for being a Rice Football season ticket holder during the 2015 season...

{Gnote: truncated here - see above for the full survey}

Yeah - I liked the Survey, especially the rating of x,y,z and also rating their importance. For me, I said the bathrooms etc. weren't great, but also rated them as not important at all. And thats where I posted the extra comments that the focus has to be on the product on the field, as the rest, while nice, won't make a lick of a difference.

I liken this survey to a restaurant survey. It doesn't matter if the service is great, it's a convenient location and parking is plentiful if the food is terrible.

I see it the same way - if the food is great, people will deal with the lousy parking or location to eat there. Similarly, if the food isn't good, you may get one time customers due to the location, but they likely won't be back.

An example is Bar 55 in the Village. 4 beers on tap and mediocre food - that place is significantly more empty than Woodrows, Gingerman, Gael or Baker Street. I ate there once and certainly don't plan on going back.

Aren't these the same opinions?

I think it is a pretty spot on analogy. But I am happy to see the department be proactive regardless of how good the lasagne is. But that is because I may be giving them too much credit in assuming they recognize that the lasagne that is being made tastes like cardboard and is the root of our problems.

They are - I misread Bob's post. Updated mine to indicate agreement.

So it definitely wasn't ALL season ticket holders. I guess there are just too many?

Now I am surprised that you both are like BufflOwl and have JK on your BLOCK list on your email account since the email came from him.03-lmfao

My guess is that JK has seen enough, and has his finger on the trigger.....but simply has had too many tasks to deal with at the present time, and wasn't prepared to make a (good) move. He also has other stakeholders to engage on the subject. I don't think going into the USM game he was prepared for the kind of meltdown that was witnessed (of course).
I see him as a fellow who's more of a deliberate thinker, rather than someone who's more likely to shoot from the hip. And, he's still rather inexperienced at being an AD.
When he makes his move he'll want it to be a homerun, like Rhoads.

Maybe it was our version of Jerry Jones intervening?

Do you really think the Athletic Director wrote a survey, a letter and then emailed you? Or that athleticdirector@rice.edu actually sends emails to Joe's smartphone?

Come on now...you're better than that.
