Tom Groeschen reports that Bearcats starting quarterback Gunner Kiel is dealing with a personal matter and will not make the team's trip to Hawaii for its bowl game Dec. 24.

Hayden Moore will start at quarterback against San Diego State. Kiel is still on the team, according to Tuberville, but it's not known when he'll return.

Here's to Gunner getting things in order and back with the team soon . Moore has shown he is capable and hopefully can bring the team and conference a bowl win .

Hayden can sling it pretty good.

Hopefully this doesn't affect either team. It last happened in 2011 which was the same year USM played in the Hawaii bowl but I don't recall any instances of the team being affected by it

Yep, no doubt tough guy. Rumor mill is took a liking to the pain meds.
I have had a couple of neck injuries and if you move your neck a fraction the pain is all encompassing. You get muscle relaxers and anti inflammatory prescribed and it does wonders. He took a heck of a neck shot in the Memphis game.

Kiel just earned his degree and is eligible to transfer come January for his final season.

Wouldn't be surprised if Kiel voiced that wish to Tubbs so Tubbs rightfully wouldn't want him to travel to Hawaii, knowing he would just leave the program as soon as he gets back to Cincinnati.

"Gunner is taking care of personal problems," Tuberville said, surrounded by several Cincinnati area reporters. "He's asked if we can kind of recognize his privacy. He's not off the team. He'll be back. I don't know when, but he'll be back. That's pretty much all I can say about it."

The last time we had a QB not miss action due to injury was 2005.
