Rutgers thanks to its soccer teams is in the Top 25, but I fully expect as the winter progresses we slide significantly despite how good wrestling is. Women's basketball should get us something, but who knows.

on the men's side, UC Irvine is tied with Arkansas. UC Santa Barbara is tied with Louisville for 12th. What I don't understand is why Akron isn't ranked at all. They reached the Final Four in men's soccer.

Akron is ranked #49 in the Directors' Cup.

Well, the Director's Cup is what it is....

personally, I think it's a little bit absurd to factor in every single sport in an unweighted manner. For example, water polo ...

Maybe you'll think differently if NDSU swept Hockey.

I agree. The sports should be weighted in proportion to their NCAA scholarship numbers. Football, for instance would have a weight of 85.

Being the champion of a sport... Still means you are a champion of that sport. Number 1 is number 1 regardless if it is hopscotch or football. You get a trophy and same recognition in the NCAA books. The points should all be the same as they are.

Gray...Football gets enough adulation. This is about recognizing schools with well rounded sports programs.

Isn't the Capital One Cup waited a little with a CFP championship and NCAA Basketball championship worth a few point more then Soccer?

Capital One was created by ESPiN BS. They pretty much weigh each sport in terms of who provides the most valuable TV content.

The Director's Cup is a much more accurate portrait of an athletic department's quality and depth (without an agenda at hand).

Man the PAC 12 really dominated the standings. They must sponsor a ton of sports.

Why do we have to live with one extreme or the other?

I agree that it shouldn't just be the best football + men's basketball + best other highest rated TV content sports. But giving the water polo champion the same number of points as the men's basketball champion????

Obviously both are flawed.

I think any weight to the points should only be in regards to the number of teams playing the sport.

Being champion of 351 Division One basketball playing schools should give you more points than being the champion of all 42 NCAA water polo programs.

Exactly.

It's like free points for Cal schools. Who the hell else plays water polo as a varsity sport??

But wouldn't that necessarily lead us to awarding the champion of 351 Division One basketball programs more points than the champion of 128 FBS football programs?

It's not like we're the only ones with regional sports. We don't play lacrosse. The east coast does, though.

RE: Capital One and Directors' Cup Standings
You can argue all day about what the "proper weights" should be, because of this and that.

Clearly, the Capital One got the weights wrong, and to have them completely unweighted is wrong.

That's all I care to debate it.

You make a good point. I would be in favor of weighting for BOTH scholarship numbers AND number of schools participating. The weight ratio of an FBS football championship to one in water polo might thus be:

Worth of Football to Men's Water Polo = (85/4.5) x (124/42) = 55.76 to 1 which strikes me as about right.
