Liberty Bowl capacity decreased. SHC in support. No quote from the bowl folks. Check the CA for particulars.

Didn't know the configuration, but this sounds good:

"The stadium already has 800 seats with backs that would be replaced to create a uniform look.

The new seats would stretch from end zone to end zone on the west side and from the 5-yard line to the 5-yard line on the east side."

4839 seats at $1000.00 each. Pretty good contract if you can get it.

The "experts" said it was impossible. I didn't bid on it.

A little tongue in cheek on my part. I would assume the relatively small number of seats has a lot of up front Architectural and ADA compliance study costs. The same basic costs would still exist for a 10,000 to 15,000 seat expansion reducing the per seat cost.

Good deal. But the idea that is better anchors us for a major conference invite is foolish. Very few major conference stadiums have chair back seats, and they're doing just fine.

"This administration?" You mean Wharton and the large number of lame duck councilpersons?

I like the chairback deal in terms of fan comfort, not so much in terms of costs (which the university is ultimately paying). But the bigger issue for those of us who sit in the areas where those seats will be installed, we are waiting for the other shoe to hit the floor - how is our seating going to be affected & at what cost increase per season ticket?

I mean Dr Rudd and other university staff that I'm sure pressed the issue.

It doesn't seem like chairbacks would do much to enhance our bid, but was the proposal limited to chairbacks or were additional Liberty Bowl upgrades approved as well? I don't know.

This is an incompetent and illogical Council that typically cannot agree on the time. They can't figure out how to keep the roads paved and they turn simple chair buying into a circus. I struggle to believe they would pass a proposal involving millions of dollars for something like chairbacks without public rancor and grandstanding unless something significant was involved behind the scenes.

If Dr. Rudd is simply that persuasive, perhaps he can work on getting Coca-Cola products at FedEx Forum.

The actual chairbacks themselves don't. But it shows that we are continually investing in the program. It will make the fan experience better which will help attendance. Fans will pay more for those seats, will be more invested and thus are more likely to show up for every game. It also lowers capacity which makes it easier to sellout, easier to create demand, and of course will drive up revenues.

So no, a chair back seat in and of itself doesn't help us get into a power conference but the investment and all the associated benefits make our program stronger which inevitably better positions us. Every little bit helps and this is not insignificant.
