With prominent builders involved with the football foundation, I can't imagine a fast one being pulled.

I have no doubt things will be watched closely for the next couple of yrs to see if the BOT has changed it's tune or not but I just couldn't resist the joke since the procedure is kinda open for that very thing to happen & we all know when they can stick it to us they will even if it is Watt's/Ingram doing it to us not the BOT

I had heard that the bid was for a 40,000 square foot building, so I don't think so.

It's more likely it will be designed in a way to make it easily converted to a research or classroom facility.

Just how suitable is a 40,000 sq ft facility? Most of us don't ever deal in those numbers so we have to depend upon folks with experience - like Attalla - to keep us posted.

I figure locker rooms, meeting/video room, both sized for a full team. Coaches offices upstairs? I really don't think that there will be games played with this building. Too many people involved who know what's what regarding construction. They have to put a bid out, which means that the description is out in public. The architect chosen will have put together a plan to meet to specs. Not much room for deliberately building it in a way that is easily converted later.

40,000 sq. ft. is 3/4 of a football field. A standard field is 360 feet long and 160 feet wide....57600 sq. ft.

I can completely see the Athletics Committee screwing us out of a full sized facility.

Two story building. This is too public to screw with.

We're talking a building, not a practice field or covered facility.

Agree. I figure that this will be a two story building. It needs to be to fit into the available space.

Since we are competing against them, how would it measure up to the Southern Miss fieldhouse?

Not to mention, How does it measure up to what the top high school programs have now or are building (like Auburn HS)?

Yeah, we need something better than all that. Something that is AAC worthy and higher.

http://www.jhharchitects.com/projects/hi...fieldhouse

I found this for Southern Miss. It was built in 2002 for $8m and has 60,000 sf.
It is in the north end zone of the stadium so it includes the visitors locker room and also other athletic department offices, which would explain the additional square footage.

That would make the USM building 50% larger than what we are hearing planned for UAB. That's a lot of "additional square footage" and raises the question of whether we are planning big enough to be user competitive.

That's what I thought. The team came out from the opposite side.
