Architects for football operations facility to be chosen this week 04-rock

RE: Per Clark - TMcCarty - 12-07-2015 11:54 AM

Sweet!

RE: Per Clark - ATTALLABLAZE - 12-07-2015 12:04 PM

This is correct. There is a huge list of architects and firms that submitted. They will narrow it down to a top 5 or so and a committee headed by Clark will select the winner. It is not a bid situation it is a selection process much like a head coach.

How much can be accomplished prior to the next BoT meeting and requiring further approval?

Quite a bit, I believe! Blaze ON!

RE: Per Clark - ATTALLABLAZE - 12-07-2015 12:21 PM

They will approve architect selection and we will be off and running. It's going to happen. The first tangible thing ever built at UAB for football.

The board will have to approve whoever UAB picks.

One of the A/E firms that has a current project down here on base in Montgomery has put in for the football operations facility.

Per Clark - GreenGiant67 - 12-07-2015 12:32 PM

You cannot bid A/E packages. You select based on qualifications. And then you price negotiate based on what you want.

We do a similar process for A/E firms for large projects on base.

RE: Per Clark - the_blazerman - 12-07-2015 12:46 PM

Has the design of the facilities been established yet or is that a part of what the architects will propose?

No. There is currently no design. There is a concept. A schematic . That is what we have seen. (UAB is showing to media, recruits, and public) The final design could look completely different than what we have been shown. The square footage could also be different based on the program that the design team will ultimately submit.

For example the AD could be thinking the square foot cost is over $325.00 a square foot and the reality is it may cost only $260.00 therefore increasing the size of the facility we could build.

That is just one example how things could change.

Thanks.

Would this include the covered football facility. And could one of the chosen firms submit a design that incorporates more than is requested. For example, could a firm submit a proposal for a football building and an adjacent or covered facility that would incorporate 1 wall of the covered facility that would be shared with the football facility.

RE: Per Clark - ATTALLABLAZE - 12-07-2015 02:27 PM

This is for football building only.

Yes a firm could submit it if is within they stated budget.

This seems to parallel what's going on with the BJCC stadium project downtown. Mayor Bell said yesterday they would be looking at architects this week and an announcement should come soon. Said he did not want to give a date, though, because there are still i's to be dotted and t's to be crossed...

Lol no doubt.

RE: Per Clark - blazerwkr - 12-07-2015 03:01 PM

So we still could end up w/ a dentist office for fb just one built today rather than the 60's or 70's 03-lmfao

RE: Per Clark - ATTALLABLAZE - 12-07-2015 03:28 PM

If you take it to the extreme...... yes. LOL That's not happening through from what I am told.
