Dickey is NOT on the list.

We could do worse I guess. I remember Ferrari talking about coach Dickey and how much he was liked. He had a couple of good teams at North Texas and I think was coaching them when we beat them. I would prefer a younger, charismatic and energetic mind to hop on board. I was afraid the "Dickey Push" would be coming down the pike.

As of 7pm last night.

I played under Dickey when he was at SMU, right before he went to UNT. Great guy, good fundamentals coach, and solid recruiter. He would do well at Memphis, IMHO.

Only question is 'is he still hungry?' That is something I honestly don't know the answer to.

Come again? Please explain how I made it appear that I am acting as if it had been 3 months since the job opened. My question was simple. Someone said list. I simply asked what list was being referred to. So, if this guy says someone is not on a list that I do not know about, I was wanting detail as to who exactly is on the list since this guy is privy to such information.

Having said that, we scored at a bonkers rate this year. If he ends up being the guy I won't cry. He has a shot to be good and we could do a ton worse.

I'm fine with kicking the tires on who is out there among the young guns. If the wheel spins to Dickey, that is not a bad thing actually. I just wonder if one of the younger guys might be a better fit.

I'll line up behind the new guy regardless and Dickey is by all accounts straight class.

Bear Bryant is just one of many examples of coaches who were big winners while much older than 55. Knowledge comes with experience. Wisdom comes with age. There is a hell of a lot more to being a head coach than knowing "x's" and "o's" and I've known men in their 50's with more endurance and drive than some in their 20's will ever have.

I respect Dickey and think all things being equal, he'd be fine coach, but read below.

That question is the only question. He would be a no brainer with his experience is he were closer to 30 than 60. I don't doubt his ability, quality, or skill. It's just this is a demanding job which will require even more effort than some other cushier P5 jobs.

If he was 41 and not 55, I think it would be an obvious solution.

The 15th is an eternity away as far as this kind of thing goes. I'd be surprised if this went into next week If it does, it won't go very far.

I am a former player and I personally think we should stay out of trying to influence this hire in any way. There are professional people who do analysis on these coaching hires and the last effort came up with some great names and we got a great hire. We don't have to go back to far to see what a favored choice got us. This is a hire that should be completely free of any emotional leanings or influence.

That is what I'd expect if a consulting firm is again employed but I'm concerned that the AD, like anyone so close to the situation, would bring his own emotional leanings & influences which would certainly have a much larger impact than a message board, if that's the "we" you suggest. Hoping the former players will also do as you suggest, although I've heard there is a movement afoot to bring their influence to bear. Hoping the decision-makers will at least allow a non-biased consulting approach to at least bring forward a short list of candidates that meet the parameters established by the selection committee (if one is in place) & from there, then choose the best candidate as our next HC.

Which brings me to the fact that I'm in Memphis for another couple days...cuz the flights were all fullish tomorrow. I might be here awhile. Anything to do in Memphis besides go to BB and FB games? My schedule is open tomorrow.

I got cancelled as well, but it was fine as I got a direct flight and first class upgrade to boot.
