Can someone explain how Ball State, with the 12th ranked defense (worst pass defense) in the conference ended up with two players on the first team defense?

It looks like too many voters failed to examine anything beyond the win/loss record when submitting their ballots for Coach of the Year.

Campbell did NOT deserve coach of the year. Babers deserves it more. If not Babers, then Fleck. Certainly NOT Campbell.

Carey was the most deserving choice due to winning the West with those injuries...but he backed in with the loss to Ohio...of course Campbell also screwed the pooch with his loss to WMU.
Who knows...I guess the victory over Arkansas meant something.

Bouagnon got in because of his yardage and number of TDs I guess. He certainly doesn't stick out as a runner. Golladay should be first team IMO.

YPC was not at all impressive.

UT's beat writer tweeted that voting was done after the NIU-Ohio game, and before the UT-WMU game.

If Carey wins one of these games - BC, CMU or OU - he is Coach of the Year.

Yea that's what I was thinking. Somebody like Kareem Hunt is a better RB, really. They just find it hard not to give it to somebody with lots of stats. IMO if our backup Huff had the same number of carries he'd have at least a couple hundred yards more.

Hunt arguably has more burst, but there is something to be said for a back like Bouagnon that can grind out 4-5 yd consistently and do it all season long. Hunt was suspended and/or hurt a good part of the season. IMO, the awards should be more about productivity than talent. You can have all the talent in the world, but if you miss 1/3 or more of your team's games, how much of an asset were you?

And there's that whole 18TD thingy too.

RE: MAC Post Season Awards Announced
Funny thing is even with all those numbers he put up, NIU fans would still rather have the backup (Jordan Huff) play. And i do agree, he should play more because he has that homerun ability that Bouagnon doesn't have. I think they should split their carries 50/50 unless one of them has the hot hand.

RE: COY
IMO COY should be awarded to either the coach of the best team (or since this is handed out prior to the MACC, one of the division winners) or a coach who outperformed expectations and did more with less. Using that criteria, you're left with Babers, Carey, and Bonamego. Given the fact that Carey won the West (the much tougher division) and did it with multiple injuries at the most important position, I'd give the nod to Carey. If anything Campbell had a disappointing season. Sure they had a nice OOC (really fueled by a quality win over Arkansas and then two very winnable games on the schedule), but their MAC season was a disappointment. No MACC for a team that was picked as the favorite to win it all is a disappointment, not something to be lauded IMO.

RE: MAC Post Season Awards Announced
It is what it is. I find it interesting almost every year NIU is not predicted to win the West and we do. I think we were predicted to be 3rd in the West this year too.
People keep underestimating NIU every season. We keep winning...although definitely a down year for us.

You were picked to win the West.
1. NIU
2. Toledo
3. WMU
4. Ball St
5. CMU
6. EMU
Two years ago you were picked 2nd behind UT (114 votes to 110 votes) and just like this year you ended up tied with them. The year before you were picked 1st (also ended up tied). Not really seeing the lack of respect or underestimation.
