Shove that up your pipe and smoke it.
You believe something Matt Campbell told you? I don't.

Not right now, because there are so many "fans" who are out of touch right now.
Think about it. If he can make it work at Iowa St, they will make statues of him. I spent a week in Ames. It's like Boise. There is nothing around for miles. There are no pro teams and one other major college competing for fans' dollars. That is why Iowa St can still attract 50,000 fans with a losing record. The same reason that Toledo struggles to get 20, 000 fans for a game. If he wins there, the sky is the limit.

"Multiple offers" and yet nobody knew anything about them? For 2 years? I don't know...look how quickly this Board fired up when the talk was Iowa State or Mizzou or UCF...If he & the other parties were truly able to keep offers quiet for the past 2 years that is really impressive. Almost unheard of. Dude's gone. Let's find our new coach.

Just saying, it's not that difficult. I've had several offers myself. Other boards wanting me to bring my witticisms and deep insight over to their place. Some guy from a "azz" organization was pm-ing me for weeks. You never knew!
Had my agent handle all that stuff, gave strict orders that I'm not to be bothered until the conference was settled. Needed to keep on focus, keep others on focus their posts were spelling true, grammatically correct and cut to the heart of the enemy.

If Iowa state was such a wowing offer I'd hate to hear what the ones were that were turned down.

That was just redwingtom telling you he tattled on you for being mean.
I was kind of surprised that he wasn't holding out for something better than Iowa State but then as others have pointed out it does have some advantages.
1) low expectations-----getting bowl eligible most years will be enough to satisfy most of those folks, at least initially until the learn to expect more. At present we have higher expectations for the Rockets every year than they do for their P5 team.
2) nice fan following------the only alternative is watching the corn grow and that gets boring after a while so of course they draw well----even for a consistently substandard team
3) lot of patience/no pressure------they give their coaches a lot more time to succeed than most P5 jobs.
4) a four fold salary raise ------most of us would welcome that
5) maybe all that fluff about liking the idea of living there and raising a family there is some pastoral setting is actually sincere
6) it was good enough for Bill Fennelly (of course he was from Iowa); however, Campbell has probably never heard of Bill Fennelly so that may not be a factor.

Now I know people don't want to believe it, but when it comes to contract negotiations (See: pro athletes, coaches, etc.), they usually leave the money part to their agents. That's why a lot of times you see athletes say, when talking about free agency, something like "I'll let my agent handle that"

You'd have to be an idiot for not knowing how much money you were leaving for if it means packing up the family and moving to a school where winning will not be so easy. He may leave the contract negotiations to an agent, but believe me, they discussed how much per year and what incentives were available and the requirements to get them
I would love it if his agent told him later that it was $2.3M, but only $400K guaranteed and the remainder was based on a conference championship, New Years Day bowl and beating an OOC opponent called NIU, but not the in-state NIU. It was one that was somewhere in Indiana or Illinois - some other state that also started with an "I".

LOL, he might show up and realize they are paying him a wooden nickel and a cup of Sanka each morning before work.

And all he can eat in the cornfeteria.
Hey, obviously it wasn't the money. He just accomplished everything he set out to do here: Lose to the same directional MAC school every year and never take his team to the conference championship. In Iowa they will make you a millionaire for that. Just sign right next to the crossed ears of corn.

Impressive win resume.
So sorry that you have lost a good coach. We know what that is like.
I hope Toledo had a $1Million buy out clause.
Any chance that you might re-hire Tim Beckman?
