That would be an awful move on his part. He could get a much better job.

Yep, that's a horrible choice if it is true...I mean, hell, Toledo beats Iowa State half the time already and they're set up to lose 5 games in the conference every year already. Apparently he didn't learn the lesson from his predecessor if it plays out that way.

RE: 2015/2016 Coaching Carousel
Quote:On Saturday, Toledo offered Campbell a contract that would have made him the highest-paid coach in the Mid-American Conference. He earned $495,000 with the school this past year.

"We think very highly of Matt Campbell and have made him a very generous offer to keep him as our head football coach," Toledo athletic director Mike O'Brien said Saturday.

Iowa State will pay a $200,000 buyout to bring Campbell aboard, sources said.

Campbell, who is 35-15 in four seasons at No. 24 Toledo after taking over for Tim Beckman late in 2011, will replace Paul Rhoads, whom Iowa State fired Monday.

Rhoads coached his final game with the Cyclones on Saturday, a 30-6 loss to West Virginia that left the team 3-9. Iowa State paid him $2.2 million this year.

If Mizzou wasn’t ready to move, Campbell had to take ISU. The offer wasn’t going to sit there long.

So the bad decision was made due to haste. Hope he enjoys the next three years in the corn then the next 5 being a Coordinator trying to work off the stink.

I just can't imagine him going to Iowa State. Unreal. He must want out of Toledo something fierce.

If Campbell gets ISU to bowl games he can parlay that into a better gig.

Justin Fuente will become the next football coach at Virginia Tech, a source confirmed to ESPN's Brett McMurphy on Saturday.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! It's Iowa State and there are a ton of better jobs open right now. This statement is total BS. It's Iowa State- the job offer would have sat there just fine until the big boy jobs (and there are several of them) filled up first. Campbell surely didn't believe this if/when they told him. If he did he's a boob.

I wouldn't take the Iowa St. job either but I'm not Matt Campbell. Let's see how it plays out with regard to the contract terms, his reasoning and what jobs he legitimately had a shot at. I think it illustrates how desperate he was to bolt Toledo and jump into the P5. So much for him coaching here any time soon. Life goes on...

Agree. Coaches tend to have egos and if he is successful at ISU then he can use that as a springboard to an even better job. On the flip, if he flames out then it hurts him but life is about taking risks - some more calculated than others.

Good lord...and the first coach to jump goes to Ames, IA 03-lmfao

I wonder who Georgia goes after? There aren't many unstable big fish...maybe Charlie Strong wants to head back to the SEC?

My guess is we'll see a couple of 'surprise' moves from guys you didn't think were looking. I'm thinking like Bielema to Arkansas type of moves.

Probably a good move. Start fresh. That department is a complete mess.

Is he still the head coach in waiting at Bama?

Saban is getting up there in age, and really has nothing left to prove. Wouldn't be shocked if he retires in a few years.
