RE: 2015/2016 Coaching Carousel
Tulane has reportedly fired their coach, Curtis Johnson, after their come from ahead loss to Tulsa. They need to hire their new AD first.

Illinois gives interim coach Cubit a 2 year deal (only $1.2M/year)

Surprised Ruffin NcNeil is not on the hot seat. Remember he virtually gave us the game last year.

Alright, so what is the comprehensive list of confirmed openings at the moment?

Illinois
Iowa State
Memphis
Miami (FL)
Maryland
Missouri
South Carolina
Southern Cal
Syracuse
Tulane
UCF

Am I missing any so far? I'm not calling LSU until it has been fully confirmed and I'm assuming Purdue will be opening up too.

Illinois has removed Cubit's interim tag. They're off the list.

And Purdue has reaffirmed Darrell Hazell will be retained at least one more year, so scratch Purdue off the list...

FYI, there is a full carousel thread on the College Sports and Realignment forum.

Cubit has a 2 year contract, not good for recruiting... I'd take a look at their commit list

I have a feeling some of these moves are based on waiting for a more buyer friendly market in the future.

This is not the year to be looking unless you are a top tier program, ala Miami or VT. There are going to end up being nearly 25 our 30 changes once all the dominos fall. That is a ton of movement.

The axe is almost certain to fall on Mike London at Virginia. One also has to wonder about Kyle Flood at Rutgers.

I think it's a bad year for those guys since top 10 jobs are open at USC and LSU. VT made great move to strike early. Miami is going to have a tough time finding a great coach.

LSU AD said to hold off on this being the coach's last game/year... They may be re-thinking the bonehead move (my opinion) of firing him.

They can't put the genie back in the bottle. They've already shown they've got no confidence in him long term so why would you bring him back? I think firing him was stupid idea but bringing him back on thin ice would be even worse.

Perhaps they had a plan behind the scenes that fell apart. Then again, maybe it's just to shut people up until he's fired. Really tough to go back now though when everyone knows you were getting ready to pay him 10+ million to go away. 04-jawdrop

Firing him never made much sense from the start. They have a terrific recruiting class coming in and their biggest problem (outside of not developing a QB) has been losing guys early to the NFL at a rapid pace.

Eh... All indications seem to be that Miami has zeroed in on Mario Cristobal.

Greg Schiano is the other name likely to surface at one of these jobs as well. He can pretty well have his pick of the job he wants.

The big name on ESPN this morning was Jumbo Fischer. Could have had second thoughts. Still don't see how you bring back a guy everyone knew you were going to fire. I'd hope they're trying to gain some leverage in negotiating buyout with Miles by making him think they'll bring him back in impossible situation if he doesn't accept reduced buyout.

I don't know any way they could make it an "impossible situation" for him. Unless they want to go the Nancy Zimpher route, that is. Isn't his contract through 2019 though?

What incentive would Miles have in reducing his buyout? If they want him gone, he should make them hand over the 10+ million.

You're right that impossible is not the right word. Uncomfortable is probably better.

I agree he'd have no reason to negotiate lower buyout I was just thinking maybe that's what they were trying to get him to do.

Looks like Matt Campbell may be headed to Iowa State.
