There are many wonderful minority actors out there who should get their due and it looks like the Oscar race is as white as the snow in Chicago right now.
Another issue I take offense to is with the holidays coming up and all the Christmas commercials I have seen on tv thus far there have only been white men portraying Santa Claus. I think it is time to start showing more diversity and why not have an African-American or Hispanic Santa? I know I am not the only one who is sick of how white Hollywood has become. I want diversity and I want it now.

Absolutely and why not have a white guy play Malcolm X in a movie, maybe Bob Saget.
That would be awesome.

He's got to be from LA. That's the only way he could do it all in one night. He takes the freeway man.

He was born in modern day Turkey, just down the road from Oslo I guess.

RE: Diversity
I think there is something to talk about here if you take a step away from the "I plug my ears when I hear 'diversity'" mindset. Now if you are going to disagree with what I'm going to say, please give me a rebuttal.

There are a couple things that lend to the lack of diversity in Hollywood IMO: money and the ability (or inability) to empathize.

Money: Studios are lead by rich people with last names that end with -stein. They only care about the bottom line at the end of the day. They will green-light a project but will interfere with the movie making process to make every aspect as marketable as they can. White people just happen to be more marketable in the world.

Ability to sympathize: This isn't an indictment on anyone, but I think audiences may collectively be unable to empathize with a non-white character (maybe Asians and lighter Latino get a pass) as much as they would be with a white person. There are some real world examples of this happening right now where empathy is now called "white guilt".

This leads me to ask this, perhaps unrelated question: In America, do you think it would possible to write a transcendent black character?

Will Smith has done those roles. The Book of Eli with Denzel Washington was pretty "transcendent."

Annndddd…does your Santa ride in a low-rider sled with hydraulics and La Virgen de Guadalupe on the hood? No, huh?
