Gotta give him credit tonight. Team looked good and he didn't stop doing what we working. Hope we keep it up. Love this teams grit.
Comical.

As of yesterday Oklahoma & UCONN are the only ranked teams on our schedule. Other than our conference the other teams we play are merely cupcakes, and many at home. Things could change but this is shaping up to be similar to our CUSA years where we get on a sustained winning streak only to get a crappy NCAA seed because we have few or no signature wins.
The team played well and with guidance & hard work they will get much better. But “Great Job Pastner”? No loss rates as great in my book and nobody will remember how well we played come February & March.
It will be just another L for Josh’s teams against the top 25.
We play Ohio State on a neutral site; they will be a tournament team. Our conference will be tougher than you realize. Tulsa knocked off the #9 team in the nation and they will probably be ranked soon. By the time conference play starts, we may have 2-3 ranked teams and eventually 4-5 tourney bids.
You’re right I forgot to include Ohio State, who could BTW be our biggest game of the regular season. I agree many of our conference mates could get better and could have more actually ranked when we play them.

RE: Great job pastner
Pastner did a great job, there are a lot of freshmen on the team. I am not one of those that want Pastner fired, so don't take this comment wrong. Pastner did great, no doubt, better this year than the last couple. But, just like the last few years, the players still need to hit shots. The players still have to buy into the system and play their roles. It is still up to the players to shut down the opponent. It is still up to the players to hit the FT's.
So, for the fans who think Pastner still should be fired, you have to blame the players they recruited in not hitting the shots during the games. As for last night's game, we can blame the players for not winning the game, also. Memphis' teams never have been great FT teams. But, if our players would work on the FT's and work on being a defensive minded team, this means that if the team is having a bad night shooting from the field, they will still be in the game.
Great job Pastner on coaching well during the game. Great job on the team to make it a close game and always having a chance to win.

I agree that I thought there was much better effort last night. However, not everything is on the players to figure out. It is the staff's responsibility to put the players in the best possible situation to succeed, both offensively and defensively. If JP is drawing up plays that are getting guys open shots, then it is on the players to knock them down. If they consistently aren't knocking down open looks, then it is on the staff to either develop this skillset or put the player in a different situation offensively to maximize his abilities. Re: the defense, the effort seems to be there for the most part. I continue to question if JP, in fact, is capable to teaching good defensive fundamentals based on what I have seen for the last several years. Re: FT shooting, I would agree that is mostly on the players, but the staff also has some responsibility in establishing a culture that promotes self-development that makes the players want to get in the gym and work on their game above and beyond the minimum requirement. This gets back to buy-in and engagement. We'll see how it goes throughout the year, if we are able to improve and show progress. I really hope so.

Pretty insightful, thanks.....
Big picture--not many people expected the Tigers to do much against OU in that game. To have had a chance to win in the final minute was impressive. We'll see how things develop over the season, but for today can we just appreciate the effort and be positive?

RE: Great job pastner
this team should take a page from Finch's Garner, Ced, Mingo, Vaugh and Wright team and just haul ass up and down the court all day long.
it was pointed out yesterday during the game on the twitter that pastner calls time out virtually every time we make a 3. I never noticed it before, but there it was. makes no sense.

the dudes playin for the Dude need to make FT's and shots down the stretch. Other than maybe calling a TO to stop OU's run at the end, he did about all he could do.

I agree on the FT’s but what I think was the real killer was going 6-26 (23.1%) from three. Of the 26 attempts Woodson-4, Dedric-1, and Tarrant-1. This means we missed on 20 three-point attempts. 20! You’re not going to win too many games whereas you miss 20 3’s.
The only players who didn’t take a 3 were Shaq & Nick Marshall. 8 other play did and that’s (IMHO) way too many.
