I know the coach is important, but give me great players and I look like a good coach. There is a list of mistakes Pastner makes, like any other coach. But if you have good players playing as hard as they can, good things will happen. These players are trying hard and we'll win wayyyyyyy more than we'll lose.

Oh Mimi...I wasn't even talking to you. The logical fans with common sense and an actual understanding of basketball and sport in general gave up on you long ago. We bantered back and forth last year when I still thought you were worth saving, but alas I realized you were just a sunshine pumper with goo goo eyes for Coach and no clue about what it takes to win at this level. Glad to see you are still just as naive and clueless as you were back then. Some things never change. Go ahead and get back to celebrating your...uh...loss. Woohoo Pastner!

Huh?

And...who are you?

Comical.

Explain bud..

Damon was here. Memphis guards had a great season. Joe, Chris etc...

Damon leaves, they regress..

Damon is still gone last season, guard play was down again.

Damon comes back, guard play is better.

Care to explain the "comical" comment?

Anecdotal.

Coach gets no credit for the kids playing hard? I'm sure you've dogged him when they didn't. They actually seem to take coaching. Didn't seem to notice any depressed/ shrug offs like the JJ teams were known for. The one variable is the players, hmmm?

RE: Great job pastner
No matter how the team does this year, some of the posters on this board will still say it had nothing to do with coach, because it didn't happen in the past. One of the things that I think is different about this team is that it seems that no player so far, has an agenda. Not since his 1st team, has he had a team that didn't have several players actually looking to the next level, instead of what was good for the team. I'm not sure that coach is cut out to deal with agenda driven players and their posses, well not a local player. Can you imagine the criticism coach would be getting now if Alex Poythress, and Perry Ellis had signed with us instead of KY and KU? Even though Poythress has had an injury, he really hasn't improved his game. Ellis has had 4 yrs of Bill Self coaching, but I guess that he's not the player that Black is, because after one year, Self turned him into an NBA player according to some. The thing about the Lawson's is that they have a father that is after being their father, is actually a coach, and seems to be a grounded man. No uncle's coming out of the stands to put their hands on coaches, or fathers calling in to radio shows.

Have anyone of you actually looked at our schedule?
http://www.gotigersgo.com/schedule.aspx?path=mbball

As of yesterday Oklahoma & UCONN are the only ranked teams on our schedule. Other than our conference the other teams we play are merely cupcakes, and many at home. Things could change but this is shaping up to be similar to our CUSA years where we get on a sustained winning streak only to get a crappy NCAA seed because we have few or no signature wins.

The team played well and with guidance & hard work they will get much better. But “Great Job Pastner”? No loss rates as great in my book and nobody will remember how well we played come February & March.

It will be just another L for Josh’s teams against the top 25.

We play Ohio State on a neutral site; they will be a tournament team. Our conference will be tougher than you realize. Tulsa knocked off the #9 team in the nation and they will probably be ranked soon. By the time conference play starts, we may have 2-3 ranked teams and eventually 4-5 tourney bids.

Losing to Oklahoma last night big time sucked (no moral victories for Tiger basketball, ever). Improved outside shooting and improved free throw shooting, no telling how far this team can go.

This team fought their @sses off and never quit, battled till the end, was fun to watch. Hopefully, improvement will come and many victories to follow....Go Tigers.

Agreed to even be in the game that late with OU was a nice surprise.

That damn tarrant missed layup and avery missing the open 3 with under a minute really determined the game. Either one goes in and we have a different ending.

This year may surprise some people, but I just hate we have a piss poor schedule. Other then last nite, down in Miami we have a shot at a decent Ohio state team and a few games against a top25 UCONN but that is really about all it is all year long. Last nite was the chance to make some noise.

It was one of the more pathetic efforts.

Name your cliche...you are in the tank for Pastner, sunshine pumper, etc...

Because reasoned discussion is more than they can handle.

Also, the possession right before the Tarrant layup miss was Shaq missing two free throws... We were in a position to win the game and the players were just not able to close it out.

The team looked much better than I expected. They looked good against Southern Miss but I did not think much of that given the competition.

We look much better the first two games this year than we have looked in just about any other year with Pastner. I give him a hard time when the team looks like crap, so he deserves credit for having had his team ready to play last night and putting them in a position to win late in the game. The switch to zone around 10 minutes left in the game was a great move...

We missed 5 (?) free throws in the waning moments. Three by a 17 year old. 2 by a senior (who, in fairness, nailed two other free throws). The "Chunked" three point attempts were reminiscent of last year.

Avery Woodson played better than I thought he was CAPABLE of.

I have much respect for a post like this, in your words, you rip the coach when the team doesn't look prepared, and that's fair, but you are fair enough minded that you give credit when it's due, you have to respect that.

I have to agree with this. I have ripped JP my fair share, but even in the loss last night, I saw a different team - a team with talent that played hard and didn't give up. No blow-out in the 2nd half. We kept it a 1 possession game late and the game was there for the taking. Sure, there are a number of things that we need to work on and clean-up, but this actually looked like progress to me. Good job by JP and the staff. Now let's keep improving.
