RE: UH Board of Regents to approve $60M Hofheinz renovation
BOR approved the $60M Hofheinz project today.

Announced that we have secured a $20M lead naming rights gift. The Courtside Club naming rights sold for $2M. We expect to hear back on the $5M floor naming rights by the end of next week. $15M in other funding is already in place.

So over 2/3 of the funding has been secured. $18M more to go, almost all from various remaining naming rights. None of it is coming from the state/taxpayers.

Ah man..... I thought the Slurpee Arena was a 7-Eleven reference. Was it not?

Yes it was but they have Coke, Mountain Dew and Dr. pepper flavors. Think of the marketing opportunities

No UCF? --- they really aren't out IMO. It makes zero sense. Too many other positives. Huge recruiting area. Huge TV market. Huge alumni base.

While the rest of the programs are building actual facilities, UCF is building a fake beach. They can keep their jumpy cheap football stadium and basketball arena.

IDK, Hofienz hasn't had much history since Phi Slama Jama (which in and of itself is enough reason to save it for me).

But I do love the low roof. Some people hate it but it traps noise and gives Hofienz a unique and intimate look.

God I hate that low roof. The lights are usually dim in the stands too, with floods on the court. I feel like I'm watching basketball in a cave.

I like the dim lights over the seats, if done properly. Reminds me a lot of the Great Western Forum and MSG. I guess the same goes for the roof. Pretty it up a bit and call it a day.

As badly as that went, it seems the Rockets dusted off that blueprint and are running with it.03-lmfao Mermball was fun basketball, don'tcha know? If you go by Coogfans calling ~30% shooting fun--I don't.

How does that huge recruiting area help if you're trying to recruit those Floridians to Ames, IA and other great flyover country type destinations? Boston College's recruiting took a hit leaving the Big East--most players aren't going to the NFL and want mom and pops to see a game once in a while--lots, if possible. Kim Helton could never get top-notch Florida kids to come to UH during the lean years, even with lots of playing time available.
