RE: CAA MBB OOC
The RPI of the CAA is holding strong at 9 a couple of games into conference play. 4 teams in the top 100 which is respectable compared with other mid major leagues. JMU gets more favorable ratings in the Power Index and Warren Nolan index for whatever the reason. Anyone know why? Is it based on some type of basketball efficiency metric? JMU is only behind Charleston in terms of CAA teams in each of those measures.
Despite some flaws in the team if they do a better job boxing out/rebounding they should be 12-2 with an RPI likely in the 60s right now.

Elsewhere around the CAA, CofC beat Hofstra, Towson beat UNCW, W&M beat Drexel, and NU beat UD. NU moved to 3-0 and is the only undefeated team left, but they haven't really been tested outside of UNCW who isn't that good this year.

???
We beat Elon on the road last week, the same team that just beat you on your home court tonight.
I don't think JMU is in any position to say someone isn't that good this year.
Oh and I think NU has been PLENTY tested in the OOC schedule, compared to the Dukes.

Dude, relax. He wasn't attacking NU, we realize we're in no position to say such things. Deep breaths.

Thank you, JMU13. I meant that NU hasn't played any of the teams projected to be the top contenders this year (us, W&M, HU). I didn't mean for it to be a personal attack on NU.

Then I stand corrected then. My bad.

It's a breakdown of who I feel are the teams that have the best shot at winning in Baltimore.

So you're saying all we need is Towson's coach and we'd be the favorites to win?

And you're giving Hofstra no chance at winning? That's silly.

As I mentioned in the thread, winning 3 games in 3 days is basically impossible if the minutes their "core 4" have been getting remain constant. They'll win at least 1 on talent alone, but fatigue will catch up to them in a bad way in Baltimore.

Very possible. Skerry won 25 games 2 years ago. With Towson. Who just a couple years before had a 41-game losing streak. He's a very good coach.
Brady, meanwhile, while an awesome recruiter of talent, still has a lot to prove in the X's and O's department, and he's been there for a while. Would you disagree with that assessment?

No, I agree with you. I'm one of the few on here who feels our coach has played out and is now holding us back.

RE: CAA MBB OOC
Of the 10 coaches that will be in the tournament, only 3 have won it before, right? That would be Ross, Brady and Coen. I don't agree with Seahawk's write-up in several areas, but I appreciate the fact that he did it and shared it with us. Here are my quick thoughts:
1. I would not put UNCW at this point in the most likely to win it group. My group would be NE, Hofstra, W&M, JMU and Charleston. From that group, my two favorites at this early juncture would be Hofstra and W&M. The former made it to the semis last year, while the Tribe made it to the finals. NE is not as good as they were a year ago. Charleston is a dark horse team, but certainly capable. And JMU certainly could do it, but they need to play better going forward on a consistent basis.
2. I don't see Skerry as being a great coach....in fact, my take is that he's a good recruiter, but not necessarily great with the X's and O's. He had Benimon for two years and did not take the team to the NCAAs, right? I think one of those years they might have been on suspension, which weakens my argument. He's won, though, with BCS level transfers. When he hasn't had them, look at the results (see last year when he only had the Vermont transfer who has since moved on to Rhode Island). When I saw Towson last weekend, I saw a tough defensive squad that can rebound, but offensively they're very limited.
3. I see Brady as a very knowledgeable coach that's missed on a number of recruits. He's become a much better defensive coach and one that stresses rebounding. I'm sure that Mike Deane has helped him immensely in those areas. Deane's Marquette teams were among the nation's better defensive teams. I've never thought that JMU's talent under Brady was necessarily better than his peers and that was certainly the case for the 2014-15 season in which they possibly overachieved by tying for the league lead with a young team.

RE: CAA MBB OOC
Has anyone else noticed the turnaround at Marshall? JMU swept them early in the OOC and they are actually playing well in conference- I know that CUSA isn't very good but still- Dukes caught them at the right time. Meanwhile Richmond is floundering. I think they lost to Mason the other night.
