SB football must be very exciting judging by the creation of this thread.

And no, I will not make any attempts to justify our pathetic attendance numbers. There's no excuse for having 400 fans at a game. I just find it ironic that a thread like this exist on the board of the conference with the worst attendance in college football which includes teams with the exact same problems as we do.

Nice try but that distinction would actually go to the MAC last year and this year so far and nobody has the problem of only having only 400 coming to a game in the Belt.

Even the SoCon doesn't have a 400 attendance problem...

I have! 03-lmfao West Kentucky from Louisville, Padukah, Bowling Green, Land Between the Lakes, and even Bugtussle itself is one of my favorite places in the country. I've spent a ton of time there and enjoyed it all. I'm also a MASSIVE Corvette fan.

LBL is beautiful. it's also retirementville. louieville has some points of interest. they host a horse race every year. i've never been. i've never been interested in going.

and there are lots of folks that do come to bg for the corvette. so you're right about that one. the museum is pretty nice. i've never taken the gm plant tour but i hear it's nice too.

a lot of people visit mammoth cave national park every year too. it's about half an hour from bg. sometimes you can take local things for granted.

i do love beaches and palm trees though.

Have you been to a GSU game? Great. Now let me explain something telling about the pic and the GSU season ticket layout.
1. These are important pictures. To the right of the box is General Admission. I have GA season tickets. Starts roughly at the 30. My group of 8 had to go all the way to the section between the 10 and goal line to get seats in two rows where we were all together for the App Game. So that is 4 sections not pictured.
2. There are over 1,000 PAC donors at various levels. We will just take 1,000 and say they all have 2 tickets. So there are 2,000 people right there. Yes. I know some people don't make all the games, but also some people have 4-6 season tickets. So by using 2 it evens out.
3. Depending on your PAC donation level you have access to the Verizon Club level, but not just you, all of your season tickets do as well. Full bar, great burger, and TVs with all the other college games on. I am there at halftime every game, and when I wander back down usually depends on GSU. If you donate at a level above me, you have access to Arthur Blank's Owner's Club. Various free things in there. It is like a man cave with a cigar room decor. Pretty cool.

But again, please tell me about my attendance at games I go to. You are obviously an expert on being able to judge attendance by looking at a picture of 4 sections that appears to be before the start or before the start of the 2nd.

Over the past 2 or 3 seasons our beat writer was obsessed with reporting actual attendance. So I know 7k looks like in that place. I know 15k looks like in the Dome. It was a 10k game with App bringing 3k.

I was at the game and took that picture. I can assure you that was BY FAR the most people on that side of the stadium. You are hallucinating if you think there were 10K at that game.

You're right. I should envious of Southern. Y'all can count to potato.

Anyway. So was I. If it was so empty in the 4 sections to the right not pictured, why did I have to walk 4 sections down past two GA sections to find a seat for my group 5 minutes into the game. From left to right what you are showing here is the student section and half of the reserved. To the right is the other 2 reserved sections and general admission.
How was your stroll through the Owners club and Verizon Club?

And I'm sorry. I don't know how many times I thought to myself there is less than 5k here, and our ajc reporter would say 14k and actual was 9k. Then I'd think that is right. The lower bowl was 1/3rd full. If you would have taken all the people at the Dome and sat them together, you would have had about 1/3rd of the lower bowl filled. The lower bowl seats 30k.

But continue to take shots at us. FIU has 5 wins this year. We have 5 wins in the past 4 years, and out draw them. We're the same.

I dunno, Stan. He said to trust him, so I think I will. Sortaguesstimating based on a picture of a small portion of the stadium sounds like the best way to determine how many tickets got scanned.

28,155 total in the lower, I thought. 14k a side split down the middle of the uprights basically (throwing away 155 seats).

Yes actually the home section is filled at about every app game, what determines it being above 16k or so is how full the away side is

What is this Away Side you speak of? I've been a season ticket holder since 1979 and know of a East Side & West Side. Some refer to them as the App Side and State Side. But I know nothing about an Away Side.

if its a night game cool damp air is going to roll over the top of you from the open fields because you are sitting below ground level. Leave the game and sit in a line of traffic for 30 minutes...not because of the attendance 30 or 40k. Nope because if nothing has changed the traffic control feeds everyone in the same direction. Then make what I call the twilight zone drive through NOTHING for a few hours. I call it that because for most of the drive you don't see anyone or anything but darkness and fields off to your right. I guess taking the longer way through Memphis is a little better but not much till you reach West Memphis.

Go to a football game at FIU and you have beaches, nightlife, 100s maybe even 1000 places to eat that not fastfood with in a 30 minute drive, casinos, 80 degree temps in the day and 70 at night. And I almost forgot....great fishing day or night.

There's a reason your AD, President and the schools largest traveling party will be at the FIU game and not at a game @ASU. Actually it's a big gripe I have that our attendance numbers will be in the 1000 range for a game 1000 miles away and 400-600 for a game 300 mile/5 hours away.

Jonesboro is easily the worse trip in the SBC for visiting fans

Troy has some of the best beaches in the USA with in a couple hour drive and so does USA. Yes I know USA is a lot closer than that but it still not the same as the PC Beach and Destin. Fishing is great in Mobile UL-L has their own thing going that makes it worth the trip but New Orleans is only 1.5 hours away. Texas St is a good trip because it sits right between two major city with both having more things to see and do than you will get to in a few weekend (2 or 3 trips). Texas-Arlington is a good basketball trip. Louisiana-Monroe is OK for a short trip...I know the Duck people are not everyones cup of tea but a friend (Western grad) works for them and it was interesting meeting them. Best thing was the tip on a great fishing spot that I got to enjoy for 4 hours before our Thursday night game there year before last.

So the SBC has some really good places to visit, at least for me....Jonesboro isn't one of them. Just as BG wouldn't be on the top of my list if I was a visiting fan. You do have Nashville with in a 45 minute drive and Memphis about an hour away from Jonesboro. So for a first time visit it's OK for both places...Jonesboro just a little bit harder getting to.

So, basically, your knock on Jonesboro has nothing to do with Jonesbor itself, it's just that the 50 minute drive between Memphis and Jonesboro is nothing but Rice Fields? Something the city has no control of.

Okay...

I mean, who cares if the football game is going to be worthless and pointless, lets go to FIU because you can get to South Beach in an hour...Wahooo.

I'm sure what I said didn't surprise you....

been saying it for 4 or 5 years.

Living in Owensboro Ky it's a lot closer going through Western Ky, short part of Tn. then Missouri, then Ark.

Football is the reason I'm going but the trip plays a role in the rating. To be honest I spend the least amount of time looking at Jonesboro as I can. It reminds me of Bowling Green back in the 90s. Really not much to do or see. I did enjoy Memphis on my first trip to Jonesboro. Went the long way because at that time I hadn't visited the city in about 8 years. Unlike a lot of people I like Memphis and even at night walking I never felt unsafe.

As for ASU's stadium...again not my cup of tea. Not a fan of most hole in the ground stadiums. Troy's is a exception. But of course you already know this because like I said above ...I've said it many times.

As Beed said I make most of Western's road games..basketball and football. So my likes and dislikes on these trips are...

#1 the outcome of the game
#2 justifying the cost

#2 includes having fun, finding interesting things to do, fishing spots, beaches.

We are not the type to visit the bars so my likes and dislikes will be different than most. So I guess you can say I've used Western's basketball and football the last 4.5 years as a reason to do something we (wife and I) planed on doing 34 years ago when we got married. Travel. Again my ideal of traveling will not be like most. If not in a hurry I don't mind small out of the place towns. I'm OK stopping at a country store getting a ham sandwich and something to drink and sit and talk to those oldtimers that hang out there all day.

Jonesboro is just out of the way and other than Memphis nothing really to do or see. Other than the reason we went there for in the first place.

I was glad to be back in the same conference with two fla schools. Anytime you can get a week away in the middle of winter and go fishing, walk on the beach and it be 80 degrees..can't be beat. That's also the same reason I miss being in the conference with Troy and USA. Use to enjoy the week leading up to the game on the beach watching waves roll in and going fishing.

You're also at a point where you are lucky to be able to travel and spend several days at the football city. For most of us, we have to plan our road trips out where we miss at most a day of work, and be back in office by Monday morning. That means the trip is basically one night in the city you are visiting, and a half day of looking around before playing a football game and leaving. Football is the point of the trip.

As a fan, I'll never end up visiting Miami unless we play a bowl game there. I don't have the money or job to allow me to plan a several day trip in which the football game is a side event. However, I can easily plan a quick weekend excursion to Statesboro to watch a football game, and be sure that I am back home in plenaty of time for work the following Monday. I'm not there to explore the many wonderful things about Statebsoro and to investigate the healing properties of Beautiful Eagle Creek, I'm there to watch us play a football game. Hopefully one in a full stadium that ends with a lot of home fans leaving dissappointed.

The only time I plan a lengthy trip to a city for a sporting event is whenever I go spend a few days at the Conference Baseball tournament. I spent 4 days in Bowling Green in 2012 for that reason, 4 days in Troy last May for that reason, and will spend 4 days in San Marcos next summer hopefully for that same reason. Even then though, I am there primarily for the sporting event...things to do in the city are secondary.

I'm not even sure what this thread is about at this point, but your comment reminded me of this video.

That was fanfriggintastic!
