Hey, there were at least 500 Ga State fans in the stands prior to kickoff of the App game.

I know the numbers look sparse in the Dome this season but I assure everyone it's still a "thousands" issue, not a "hundreds" issue with GSU attendance.

Don't know what kind of math you guys use in the big city, but where I come from this ain't "thousands".

Sure it is . . . . .

Unless 17k was on the home side there was not close to that many fans at the game.

Same thing I saw with a week night game at ASU earlier this season
I know USA fans said they are the only school in FBS that uses actually count...again not by what I've seen on my TV.
Rice had maybe 4,000 to 5,000 fans at the Western game a few weeks ago and they listed 20k. Pictures I saw showed maybe 3k but I was there and 1500 or so were doing what we could to get out of the sun...not seen

No matter the number of fans at a FIU game...100 or 30k FIU is going to be more valuable than most of our programs.. Us fans in small markets might not agree with that but....

location location location

When USA transitioned to FBS we used Ladd's turnstiles to report attendance. The NCAA said that we couldn't use that number so we had to get scanners. Since the NCAA was heavily scrutinizing our counting methods we ONLY reported actual attendance, and to go further only actual scanned tickets were reported (so we have something to go back on for NCAA). In many cases the scanners broke or they didn't count the students because the student ID swiper didn't work. In those cases people were waived in. We do not inflate our numbers and they are actual butts in seats. Our numbers seem more accurate this year and there seems to be less scanner issues. And TV is not kind for the Jags. It's a 40,000 stadium. The east side and west side both hold 15,000 people each, and more people sit on the press box side that isn't shown on TV.

RE: Glad F_U is CUSA's family now
This thread is very telling. The P5 conferences were established for the sole purpose of distancing those five conferences from EVERYBODY in the G5 conferences. Seeing interest in any G5 conference team dwindle is not a good thing for any of us. In fact, attendance like that at FAU's last game is a sign that the P5 are succeeding in their endeavor to diminish the relevance of G5 conference athletics in general.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link.

well it certainly shows the relevance of most schools at the g5 level. none are state flagship schools that garner the rabid lifelong following and state pride of the typical fan . we are all "also-rans" that are trying to break into the group of the "cool kids"..

Lol wut. This was dumb. Let's analyse shall we?

In this picture

we're seeing only four sections of seating, which is this part of the stadium:

Also, in the second from the left section alone, a very quick count over shows at least 150 people. Just in that one section. Altogether in that photo there are 350-400 people (count them). And again, that's approximately 1/3rd of one side of the stadium. So again i say, this was a stupid comment.

Edit: After a closer count, there are more than 500 people in that one picture. Assuming there are at least that many people in the rest of the stadium, we're talking thousands, not hundreds. This also goes a way to show you just how sparse the Dome can look even with thousands of people there.

Who really gives a damn about attendance? How is it directly affecting your program? No matter how man fans Georgia state or fiu has in the stands, UL will continue to grow its program. obviously this is just a bash cusa thread. Nice.

I don't think it would make any difference mainly because Miami has problems and they are national program. If FIU ever gets to a 20000 average it will be a miracle. I am amazed they can field a team with the support they have. Glad they are in CUSA. To the fan wondering how we can talk about them when we have a team with attendance problems. My answer to that is without FIU and FAU that is two less problems.

When you have 55,000 students paying athletics fees, you can do pretty much anything you want. Doesn't make it a good idea, but the money is there.

Hey CUSA, how's that Major TV Market idea working for ya?

i can't speak for the conference but for me personally. i'm loving being back with fiu and fau.

i have a built in reason to go to south florida again. went down for both basketball games in january.

going down a week and a half from now for the fiu football game.

much better than going to bugtussle <insert sbc southern state here> for a road game. don't get me wrong. i'm going for the football game. we really need to win it. but if it was in bugtussle <insert sbc southern state here> i'm not sure i'd pull the trigger on the road trip.

so if there were on 300 at the fiu-uncc football game by god there'll be 302 for the fiu-wku game. write that one down.

Have you been to a GSU game? Great. Now let me explain something telling about the pic and the GSU season ticket layout.
1. These are important pictures. To the right of the box is General Admission. I have GA season tickets. Starts roughly at the 30. My group of 8 had to go all the way to the section between the 10 and goal line to get seats in two rows where we were all together for the App Game. So that is 4 sections not pictured.
2. There are over 1,000 PAC donors at various levels. We will just take 1,000 and say they all have 2 tickets. So there are 2,000 people right there. Yes. I know some people don't make all the games, but also some people have 4-6 season tickets. So by using 2 it evens out.
3. Depending on your PAC donation level you have access to the Verizon Club level, but not just you, all of your season tickets do as well. Full bar, great burger, and TVs with all the other college games on. I am there at halftime every game, and when I wander back down usually depends on GSU. If you donate at a level above me, you have access to Arthur Blank's Owner's Club. Various free things in there. It is like a man cave with a cigar room decor. Pretty cool.

But again, please tell me about my attendance at games I go to. You are obviously an expert on being able to judge attendance by looking at a picture of 4 sections that appears to be before the start or before the start of the 2nd.

Over the past 2 or 3 seasons our beat writer was obsessed with reporting actual attendance. So I know 7k looks like in that place. I know 15k looks like in the Dome. It was a 10k game with App bringing 3k.

There are advantages to CUSA's membership. Airports in Charlotte, Miami, San Antonio, Houtson etc. So if you are a inclinced to follow your team and want a big city desination, then you like it. If you are concerned with rivalry and experiencing tradition with good teams, in actual college enivronments, not so much.

FIU, FAU, Charlotte (and Georgia State) will have a hard time maintaining programs with such dismal support. FIU may have 50k students that pay athletic fees to support the program but after a while, those students and the faculty may be asking for what? A recruit may like south florida, but not if it means playing in front of so few fans and attending a commuter school.

Lots of schools in CUSA, and SBC are located in bugtussle. Including Jonesboro, Ruston, Hattisburg, Monroe and Bowling Green, Kentucky! So if you are trying to be insulting, you are doing a great job of insulting yourself. Personally, I have no problem going to real college towns with real fans that care and support the team. FIU, FAU and others don't fit that mold and never will.

Count them. I'm not estimating, i literally counted as best as i could. But in the first section alone (plus the people in the isle to the right of it) there are approximately 114 people. Again, count it before you start. And who was arguing who's fans they were, i'm just talking about attendance.

i've been to the bugtussles on road games. but people try to pretend that fiu and fau have zero redeeming qualities. i just mentioned it gives me a reason to tie in a trip to south florida while i watch MY team.

i've been to jonesoboro. not much there and in the middle of nowhere. truly in the middle of nowhere. but i went to watch my team play arky state. and we won so the road trip was even better.

i've been to lafayette and it was great. fantastic people and great food everywhere. i would love to go back and visit it. we got cornholed by the refs at the end of the game but it is in louisiana so that's in the fine print on the back of the airline ticket. it says the airline will not be held responsible for any cornholing that may occur by men in striped shirts.

i've been to murfreesboro and it's a hole. a bedroom community for nashville with terrible traffic problems. it's a large bugtussle but a bugtussle nonetheless.

western signs several players from florida. not as many as when willie was here but we're still signing kids from there. we always have. we did under jimmy feix, dave roberts, jack harbaugh and certainly under willie.

going to fiu and fau on alternating years is a bonus for your florida kids and for some kids in the commonwealth who have never been to the state of florida. so to me that is a redeeming quality.

i spent around 5 days down there for the basketball games this year. January 19th and it was 78 degrees and perfect in west palm beach. that is certainly a redeeming quality in my book.

i guess i'm just defending a conference mate when the attendance geeks show up. i don't think they'll ever have great attendance at fiu. miami doesn't have great attendance and they've won multiple national championships. it's been explained by people living down there how difficult it is to get people to the games. over and over.

i will go on the road for some of the bugtussle games. i'll leave the rest for wkuyg as he goes on all the road games. i'll continue to cherry pick.

you won't find people from anywhere planning a vacation around bowling green, ky and you damn sure won't find anyone anywhere planning a vacation around jonesboro arkansas.

i did go to jonesboro for a football game. arkansas state brought maybe 35 people to bowling green for a football game. neither place is a destination by any means.

but miami florida is a destination. the original post was dogging out both fiu and fau about attendance. all i did was offer up my personal experience with both schools. they may not have great attendance but they do have worth to me. i spelled it out fairly clearly.

don't be hurt by me calling several places bugtussle. that's what they are in my book. so no matter how great jonesboro or bowling green are as places to raise a family (and i believe both are) they have no draw to me for a visit. hence. bugtussle.

I was at the last game in BG, and we had far more than 35. All those empty bleachers weren't necessarily stAte's.

I was at the last game in BG, and we had far more than 35. All those empty bleachers weren't necessarily stAte's.

as Dwight Schrute would say. FALSE. you might have come but you live in nashville if i recall correctly. sorry if i have you confused with another fan. i listened for years how great all these teams 'travel'. none did. maybe middle would bring 100 or 150. the gumps were legendary for their THOUSANDS that travel. never saw it. never even close to saw it. and i don't count band members as travelling fans.

so far in cusa it's the same. i have heard that marshall fans travel pretty well but we play them the day after thanksgiving here. that'll be tragically low attended by the home crowd and marshall.

but i honestly don't care anymore as long as the ncaa doesn't. there was a tweet yesterday that said all FBS attendance was down 4% last year. said wku was up 11% this year and up 16.4% since 2011. that second figure is probably driven from how low we started to be honest. the 11% because we have a fun team to watch. i have zero control over anyone else attending other than my 4 season tickets.

attendance smack is almost as weak as band smack. in my opinion.

Indeed you have been to Lafayette.04-cheers And imagine this beed, you only scratched the surface as it relates to the great food. I've eaten meals all over the world and there's no place like home.

Not this... they don't play at Ladd. 03-banghead
I once missed the entire 2nd quarter plus halftime of a Senior Bowl while standing in line to get a drink/sandwich, etc.

In fairness to Ladd, this was the game where Bo Jackson played and the stadium was a definite SRO sell-out. But still.

If Ladd-Peebles still has those issues after 30 years.... smh
