That might be true but there's no excuse for finishing the season like this. Our offense the past few games has been terrible and our coaching hasn't been great either.

and add benkert's injury
IMO the offensive struggle is in big part due to the switching of qbs...
ecu should have decided early and built one of them up...they picked kemp first, who had a turnover issue and took him out often. taking him out wasnt the problem, but if you're going to take a qb out for turnover issues keep him out. you play him through his mistakes or move on. the constantly pulling is a confidence killer and you are putting back a qb in a game with no confidence, who is playing not to be benched and not a qb playing to win (which will affect the throws and how he mentally plays)
and for summers, its clear he isnt a good passer, if summers was the guy they shouldnt have taken him out in the must pass situations early in the season, and pushed his improvement. his development as a passer should have happened early in the season, not at the end of the year in must win games

There's no doubt looking back that our QB situation probably wasn't handled as well as it should be. I personally think even with the turnover issues we should have stuck with Kemp because we can do more with our offense than Summers. Summers is a great athlete but he's not a QB, I think that was pretty evident by the BYU game that if the first read isn't there he can't go through his progressions. Kemp can do all that well but for some reason struggles protecting the football and fumbles a lot so it's kind of a lose-lose. It certainly hasn't helped that our O-line has regressed this year with the new line coach so neither QB has had a great run game to help them for much of the year.

We would've won by 20+ last night with Benkert or Nelson
Oh give me a F break... You making it sound as if USF wasn't even on the field.
We had no first downs at the half and trailed by 2. Nelson is really good, Benkert is an unknown, but Nelson would've put up at lest 35 on that defense

Dont be a sore loser.... scoring 35 on us is really hard considering only one team has done it all year and Maryland was our worst game by FAR.
Simple fact is that USFs defense is one of the very best in the AAC. Doesnt matter which QB you put in. No AAC has scored more than 24 points on us.
Same boat that Marshall is is. The USF fan is right, you can't loose a QB of that caliper along with key players at other positions without a down year. Hopefully you guys can right the ship soon.
The postgame comments from Ruff say everything. He repeated stated that they had been working on Summers not hesitating with his throws, but obviously that has fallen on deaf ears. He has routinely been late with passes or pulled them down and chosen to run instead of making the quick throw. Jones was wide open on numerous occasions and Summers can't see it. At one point in the game he was 15 yard downfield without a USF defender within 5 yards of him waving his arms like crazy and Summers was looking right at him but didn't throw the ball - I think he scrambled for a 1 or 2 yard gain. In the UConn game on 4th down when he ran out of bounds he had two crossing receivers including Williams open just beyond the line of scrimmage but decided to run anyways. Summers is an athlete, not a QB.
I watched the sideline closely during the game and Summers was shaking his head and throwing his hands up while Kemp was talking to receivers and coaches. IF UCF is as bad as they look, Summers may can beat them, but he has no chance against Cincy or anybody ECU would draw in a bowl game.
WR's aren't the problem. That was pretty obvious if you watch the Fla game, BYU game, Va Tech game. Our receivers and TE are just as good as anyone in the conference. The whole problem is the QB. Bottom line, don't make any other excuses about other things. QB is the problem. The defense has played well enough the last 3 or 4 games to beat the teams we've played and we have had horrible QB play. Every time Summers comes out and scrambles for 1 yard, and throws two incomplete (wildly) passes the defense is right back on the field with about 90 seconds of rest.
It is criminal that an offensive coordinator, who supposedly tutored Riley, can look at game film and practice film and confidently say that Summers is giving ECU the best option to win. I have been saying for a month now that Summers is NOT a QB and it is proven time and time again. We ran zone read over and over and over, Summers had 20 carries (2.1 ypc) to Hairstons 13. That either tells me Summers cannot read when the DE is staying home and he should give it, or he is recognizing that and saying screw it I want the ball in my hands and keeping, then immediately gets stuffed on the option making it look like our OL is not doing their job. You cannot take a team built for a pass heavy spread and change them into a run option team, it just cannot work, this team has been built 6 years for a certain style offense. On top of that all the coaches speak how good it is to have Grayson back, 9.6 ypc against UConn and he gets how many carries Saturday, 1. I am not ready to fire Ruff but Nichol, wow, his decision making and evaluation skills leave a lot to be desired. He was obviously a good position coach but not everyone is cut out to be a coordinator and it's pretty obvious he is not.
Yeah WR isn't the problem. The biggest problem is obviously QB and it's making all the other issues seem much worse. I can't sit here and say with any certainty what Benkert or Nelson would have done with this team, but it would take very little to not be much better. Ruff will get one year to fix this situation. He's got 2 years remaining on his contract and no way he'll be allowed to coach a lame duck season so he's either getting extended or fired sometime next year.
