Hasn't it always been assumed that the DC would get that job when Beamer finally retired?

Frank Beamer is retiring. So the Virginia Tech job is open. And that’s the one Memphis fans should worry about. Perfect for Justin Fuente.

The one that scares me is Georgia when it opens up after this season.

Frank Beamer retiring. Not good news for Memphis fans. Va Tech and Georgia are two jobs that seem like an irresistible fit for Fuente

RE: Virginia Tech Open
Pretty much every job that opens up will have Fuente tied to it in someone, while it kind of sucks, it is way better than the alternative where we are debating whether our coach should be fired or not... I have no delusion that Fuente will pass on some of the great jobs IF he is offered, so in the mean time I am just enjoying the ride. If I am wrong, awesome, then we get another great year of football with him leading the charge.

I think it has been more than assumed. In fact, during a game early in the season, I heard the announcers refer to it. They didn't use the term "coach-in-waiting", but whatever words they used made it sound like that arrangement was a done deal. Of course, things can change, and they may not know what they're talking about but were just repeating the "word on the street".

Pretty sad...even for a Bama/Auburn/Memphis fan.

Bud Foster has been declining HC jobs for almost a decade now. He's either waiting for the VT job and will basically be named HC before this season is through, or he has no interest whatsoever in being an HC.

true.. I would have thought after Auburn's loss on Saturday, and the fact they can no longer "find a way" he would find a place to hide, but alas we can not get that lucky.

Bud Foster aint getting that job unless a lot of people turn down the job. Very unlikely.
