RE: Virginia Tech Open
I don't get why people would want it. The luster is off Virginia Tech....and its Blacksburg, Virginia for crying out loud ( a town just a little bigger than the 1 I live in in Kentucky. Blacksburg has about 24000 peeps.). No much happening in that small town.
You need a coach to recruit ...a salesman type of guy...and one who knows he going to take some bumps and bruises along the way as he rebuilds.
Would Coach Fuente want to go back to another rebuilding project?
Never say never...but at this point he has his pick of rebuilding projects. Not all of those rebuild projects are created equal.
If Georgia were to come calling...then I'd be mighty worried. Virginia Tech...not so much.
Just my two cents.

I think it was assumed to be his job for the taking for years, which is why he turned all those down...but that the last year or two of results have soured the admin on staying inside the complex. I think the original plan probably was to hire Foster, but he isnt anywhere near the top of their list right now. Just a guess.

That is pretty crappy if that is truly the case. Let a guy hang around and turn down HC offers and then when the time comes, pull the rug out from under him... It is a business, but man that would not play out well in the media.

I'm worried about the Georgia job.. That job is one of the best in the country.. Another thing that would be awful would be if Fuente does accept another job he probably would not be with the Tigers for their bowl game.. Usually aren't the hires made for teams looking for coaches before the bowl season starts??

RE: Virginia Tech Open
Foster was considered the front runner for the job for years because his defense is what really made VT relevant. It may have been when they got Vick that put them in the NC game, but it was the defense that made them a contender year-in-and-year out. Right now VT's defense is ranked 57th overall. Not good, not bad, middling. So the question is how much does a 56 year old who has never been a HC have left in the tank?
I think Foster wants it, but I have no idea if he gets it. I'd like to see VT give him a shot because I think he deserves it, but we'll see.

Based on the VIP insider at South Carolina's 247 board it sounds like Houston's Herman is their top candidate.

He is. Fuente is 2nd/3rd.

yes, but one of the existing coach would probably coach the team in the bowl game and then go join Fuente.

VT is CJF's dream job? I'm missing this vibe. Wrong geographically for starters. Not the strongest recruiting base. Mid-pack program in the (certainly not strongest conference) ACC. Replacing a legend who was the only coach to ever have success there.

There are bigger jobs to fear than this.

Although it's the ACC, it's still P5. Virginia and the surrounding area is a rich recruiting base. Add to that, Georgia Tech and Duke have been the powers of late. They're will be a good list of coaches wanting this job.
