Memphist Set To reveal Selection Committee Thinking--USA Today
Regardless of what happens from here on out, anyone who closely follows the machinations of the College Football Playoff selection committee owes a debt of gratitude to Memphis.

When the committee convenes this coming weekend and prepares to reveal its first 25-team ranking of the 2015 season, its treatment of Memphis will offer a valuable window in to the process that never came up last season: How do committee members evaluate an unbeaten team from outside the Power 5 conferences with quality wins on its résumé?

Not to get ahead of ourselves, but the Tigers are No. 16 this week in the Amway Coaches Poll and are 30-point favorites this weekend to beat 2-5 Tulane at home. Barring the biggest upset in college football this season, Memphis will be 8-0 heading into the first official CFP ranking that will be released on Nov. 3.

Well they would have to be higher than 23rd:

Same said for Temple (ND) and Houston (Vandy) if they are still undefeated at that time.
Any 13-0 AAC team is going to be ranked really well.

would be much happier for them, though, if most of its fans didn't come across as j/o's

I don't disagree on some of them. There's no need to be a personal jerk and pain just because the program you follow wins a few games.

Simulated BCS https://twitter.com/RedditCFB/status/659045496816799744 has Tigers 15th, Temple 19th, Houston 20th, and Toledo 21st. I would be very surprised to see all 4 in the Playoff rankings, even if they all stay undefeated.

As far as the article being positive, it helps if it's written by your ex-basketball beat writer who is now with USAToday. :)

If Temple beats ND, they would make a huge jump.

RE: Memphist Set To reveal Selection Committee Thinking--USA Today
There were only 2 undefeated power schools as of this time last year (Miss. State, FSU). There are 8 this year (LSU, Iowa, Ohio State, MSU, Oklahoma State, TCU, Baylor, Clemson).

Pretty sure there was only unranked Marshall for undefeated G5s last year at this time and this year we have 4: Houston, Temple, Memphis, Toledo.

Pretty crazy year for the number of undefeateds still alive going into Week 9. Not a single undefeated plays another undefeated this week either as far as I can tell.

Agreed...

And if Temple goes 13-0 you can replace their name with Memphis in that article...

If Houston goes 13-0 they will not have any NAME wins on their schedule...

While the computers would view wins over a 11-1 memphis and a 12-1 Temple as very valuable I doubt humans would treat them the same.

If Houston beats Memphis it proves Memphis was a fraud in the eyes of most of the public, not that Houston is good.

"Sure they are undefeated, BUT BUT BUT..."

XoXo,

Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame, Michigan, Utah, Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Miss St.

(please ignore the fact that our "harder schedule" that we blame for our loss(es) also gets us money, TV exposure, and recruits...)

Yeah, and apparently one of our posters from the thread agrees with his viewpoint. It's like every team on here, everyone has a few bad apples.

When someone comes out with an asinine blanket statement I shoot it down. The comment needed to be shot down. Most of us pull for the rest of the conference but if you say something is true enough times people start to believe it's true. You are a good fan but I thought the response was not appropriate to the elementary stature of that statement.

Also, I should apologize for inferring you agreed to the entire comment. You were only agreeing with a disclaimer and I should have stated so.
