Just too many factors and prejudices going against them to have a chance. There is no such thing as a level playing field in college football. It is set up to benefit the P5 conferences. Has been since the day they set up the previous BCS system and carries on today with the playoff system. Do not forget the first ACC conference title game FSU wasn't even ranked going into the game and ended up getting a BCS bowl bid. Then you have teams such as Tulane which goes undefeated and cannot get a BCS invite.

No.

You can if you want to, but we all don't have to be realistic. I prefer to dream.

Heck, realistically we're probably going to lose a game making all of this moot.

But who wants to think about that right now? And as long as we're talking about going undefeated, might as well talk about the playoffs too.

Honestly is Ole Miss wins out we need one more conference champion and Notre Dame to have two loses

So if Temple somehow beats Notre Dame and Notre Dame beats Stanford that accomplishes everything.

It would also be helpful to have Alabama lose again.

I think the odds against us going undefeated are probably lower than the odds of having two P5 champions with 2 losses.

So we want AL to beat LSU then Auburn beat AL?

Auburn isn't beating Alabama this year. LSU might, but not Auburn. They are terrible this year. Our SEC hope is Ole Miss. If they can win out, they are the SEC champ, and are probably in the top-10.

I dunno; Sagarin has Auburn ranked 41, and they get Alabama at home. I could see Lane Kifden snatching defeat from the jaws of victory here.

Yeah, records mean very little in the AL-Auburn game. But not really wanting to focus there. If Ole Miss wins out we still have a problem with either a one loss LSU or a one loss AL - heck, due to the P5 bias we (any undefeated AAC school) have a problem with any one loss P5 school.

Is your contention that Ole Miss AND either a 1 loss AL or a 1 loss LSU would get 2 of the 4 spots? I highly doubt that. If Ole Miss wins out, the only SEC team we will have to worry about is Ole Miss.

I'm amazed how negative the good fans are in this thread. We need maybe 1-2 breaks and winning out to make the playoffs

Defeatist attitude I tell you. Some of the same ones said that it was unrealistic that we beat Ole Miss and if we were, it was going to take a lot of luck. Now if everything fell the Tigers way at the end of the season, can the Playoff committee still pull the rug out from the team? Sure, but I'll rather let them sweat it out doing so than just rolling over saying it's hopeless as a fan

We still have a long way to go. Having said that I believe we will be the best team on the field every game we play the rest of the way. Let's be realistic though. The best team doesn't always win. It doesn't mean we all don't want the Tigers to win. Of course we do. Some of us are just tempering our expectations. How is that defeatist?

Let's enjoy it one game, one bite at a time. I, like many don't want to jump ahead. If they stay focused, they can do this.

I said "if everything fell the Tigers way". I know in sports and in life everything doesn't fall the way we want it to but we were talking about the playoff hopes 'if' thing were to work toward the tigers fortune. I don't want to hear one game at a time bit because literally everyone around here has speculated about our sports teams in one or another on this board

While we are undefeated we have looked nowhere near unbeatable...So I understand some peoples worry with the remaining schedule.

We get to 13-0 and there are 3 or fewer (a) P5 champs <2 losses + (b) SEC West teams not named Ole Miss with <2 losses, we're getting in if I have to personally kick every TV executive in the balls.

If we go 13-0 we will get one of those TCU type Rose Bowl games.

Thank you for participating, enjoy your trip.

By definition, neither does any team with a loss.
