RE: Ole Miss athletic director angry with Memphis paper’s Nkemdiche injury photo
The photo was not in poor taste. It was a pivotal point in the game and momentum swung our way. I never want to see another player hurt, but it was a HUGE moment. Now, the tag line/headline was probably not worded in the best way, and I can understand that it might come across the wrong way. Their AD did the same thing last year when an AL paper used the photo of Treadwell breaking his ankle. Hard to look at? Yes, but told the story of that game. I wish nothing but the best for both of those guys moving forward, but this is football and when an injury affects a game in this way, it is newsworthy.

Agree it was in poor taste. Likely unintentional though. Would venture 100% that the CA was unaware of him on the ground, and as above stated- was focused on the Tigers celebrating.

Two wrongs do not make a right- but there were a lot of shark bear fans cheering like mad when Kelly hit one of our defenders, injuring him. And yes, they were cheering even after it was clear he was hurt.

With that, poor editorial decision by the CA.

Wonder if the pink shark AD is just as annoyed with the Oxford Eagle when they have made disparaging comments about Memphis.

Are you kidding ??? Poor taste or no, them being aware of it was part of the clever tag line.

On second thought, after reading the bear pink's actual comments...

This was not in as poor taste as I originally thought.

Big play, smash hit referring to Memphis overall, and most importantly, Nkimdeche WALKED away from this.

Could have used another pic for sure, but less egregious than originally thought, and yes, the arrogance dripping from the AD contributes to that thought. His kids were land sharking all over the field taunting Memphis last year, even after plays where Memphis kids were hurt.

Had Nkimdeche been carted off- absolute poor taste. But since he walked off, the full extent of his injury unknown at the likely time they ran that picture focusing on the celebrating Memphis players, a very minor faux pas here.

The only thing that the photo shows that was seriously injured was Freezes chances to land the Texas job.

Standing O....completely agree with this post.

I was at the game on Saturday and our receivers and backs took harder hits from the Blackbears than this Ole Miss player. I'm glad he got up and walked away after the play mind you...

The Ole Miss AD should be more concerned about his job than a photo in ANY newspaper.

When is the last time a SEC team got ANY bad press (unless a player was in legal trouble) or no coverage from the CA.

The SEC gets freakin' worshiped by most media outlets..

Finally Memphis Football is getting some ink good ink too :)

Maybe they need to worry a little more about their frat boys down there and a little less about what pictures run in the Memphis paper.

Who cares what their AD thinks? This is between Ole Miss and the CA.

Good point. This year our players on defense were doing the land shark thingy thing in mock fashion to the dislike of their players and fans (karma). On to the player that was hurt (can't spell his name), I was also glad to see him get up and walk to the locker room on his on accord (never want to see a player get hurt). And as far as their AD complaing to the CA. Stop the butthurt and go hug your boy Freeze, it'll make you both feel better.

No reason to use that photo. Makes you wonder what they were thinking. They sure didn't do it to support the Tigers. The CA is more of SEC paper than Memphis paper.

Looks like a picture of Memphis players fired up after a "smash" hit. It goes good with them being a "smash hit" as a team. Were they not supposed to tackle him? PC world is too PC.

There is no way they could use this photo if the coach hadn't put him in the position. Go be mad at the right person.

It's a paper. They are going to sell whatever gives them the bigger audience. Right now that is the Tigers.

Did the kid die?

Jeebus. He got his bell rung.

Perhaps Bjork should write a letter to the editor of the OM student newspaper and ask why his coach is putting said bell runger out on offense.

It is friggin' football. 55,000 people were cheering like mad at the result of the play, but now some folks' taints are hurting because of a PHOTO of the play in which people were high-fiving.

Good lord.

I guess they were focused more on the stop than the injury. That was arguably the turning point in the game.

I'm talking about the photo, not the play. The play was great. Running a photo of an injured player is kinda questionable.
