some of you might find this stupid. you might think it's pointless. i disagree. and it's not THAT long, just read it for God's sakes.

streamers are our tradition, they're OUR thing. for ONE game, i want to have us do this like we used to.

in 2008, there were students (i think?) handing out streamers in giant black garbage bags to anyone. a few years later, they were gone, and then they were on sale by clubs/frats/sororities for $1 apiece. then, they weren't even on sale anymore.

now, they are only given to the lower deck. i have NO clue why this is. i've mentioned it to JMU over and over and over and over. they're obviously not listening or don't think it's worth the extra expense. this is a huge mistake. it's an unbelievable atmosphere-booster and it's a unique recruiting tool. if we're going to have a "thing", why don't we do it right?

let me be clear: i'm in the upper deck and i bring streamers for every game. but i think there are maybe 3 other people in my section who bring streamers. this is pathetic.

is there ANYTHING we can do to improve this? streamers should be raining down from the upper deck. it looks so cool (especially on TV) when they do. besides that, the stupid Ticks have tried to rip this tradition off from us. are we seriously going to let them get away with that bulls**t???

what can we do? can someone start a streamer fund like you guys did with the flyover? get another couple of garbage bags of streamers going? i'd gladly contribute. let's not half-a$$ this awesome tradition.

I guess about the only thing to do is, like you said, a fund and then some people go and hand them out... I couldn't really throw in much right now but I'd throw in a little for it. They're only like $0.90ish each at Party City and Walmart so it shouldn't take much for each person to make a decent impact, it probably wouldn't be too hard to find somewhere to order a ton of them. I'd imagine Party City and Walmart would run out way quicker than we'd like if we just tried to get them there... Plus the purple should ideally be darker than what they have there.

We asked earlier this year why they weren't handing out streamers anymore and were told that they no longer have a cleanup crew come in after games. Instead the facilities maintenance guys are responsible for cleanup. So they stopped handing out streamers to cut down on the amount they have to clean up.

Saying that though, we need streamers flying throughout the crowd all morning on Gameday!

I will be sitting in Section 407 and I will have streamers to share.

I will be happy to donate if someone sets something up.

Yeah I'm not a fan of the "gold"(brown) that they sell for $1 each in the lower level and not a fan of the purple you can get at Party City/Walmart. The purple they sell in the lower level is good, and the yellow at Party City/Walmart is good.

Did some quick Googling, I can look more in to it later when I'm not doing a bunch of other things at the same time and see if there are better options, but it was quick and easy to find a site that has cases of 50 purple for $30.50($0.61 per streamer) and cases of 12 yellow for $8.52($0.71 per streamer) before shipping where the colors look good. If anyone is going to do it though, I'd say to definitely call tomorrow and make sure they're going to come by Friday.

The Gold streamers are the dumbest thing ever, next to the risers. The purple blends in and the gold blends in even more. Yellow are what stand out. I used to purchase 60% "school bus yellow" streamers which JMU continued to do until last year. This is the same colors we used to use at basketball games in the 80's.

Keep in mind, the football game is not the difference this week. Our National exposure comes from 9:00 AM to to Noon. That's where I feel we need to demonstrate our tradition. It would be cool if they talked about the tradition. Perhaps put some on their table to throw. Would love to see them continuously tossed in the air for three hours. Very festive to say the least.

A must is to show 100's thrown when Corso put's on the Duke Dog head!

To me the amount of streamers at the game is not as big a deal as streamers during the ESPN Game Day.

Totally agree across the board. Though it would also be cool for homecoming to be back to having the full stadium throwing tons and tons of streamers, streamers on GameDay is the biggest thing. You're right, when Corso puts on the Duke Dog head(he better!) would be the perfect time for everybody and their mom to be throwing streamers.

Purchased a case through the site. They also do a 5% bonus to charity so put in the duke club email address when filling it out. Gives them a $1.72 off each case at the site if they were to get some themselves.

The purple is good. They have yellow instead of gold. I suggest going to non-Harrisonburg stores to get them if you can...there will be more inventory due to less people looking for them.

good suggestions. sounds like a big mobilizing effort isn't exactly going as i had hoped, but that's totally fine. i'll buy a case and pass as many out in my own section as i can afford to. if even one of you does the same, i'll consider that a success.

it sounds like Lee Fitting is the producer that helps to guide the gameday crowd as they go through the broadcast. We should contact him and ask if he can make an effort to organize a mass streamer throw that will be displayed on tv. the only way to make it work is if he helps guide the crowd into doing it.

with that being said, I doubt JMU will provide a mass amount of streamers, so it would rely on fans bringing their own in mass and handing them out to other fans.
