Most of them I wish well, but Dantonio and Butch are exceptions. I don't think either of them did us any favors. I give BK a pass though. His departure wasn't handled well but it's just about impossible to be completely honest and forthright these days in that situation. It's hard to fault an Irish Catholic guy (iirc) for taking what is still arguably the #1 college job in the country. And the progress and heights he took us to combined with what seems to be at least a modicum of ongoing respect and affection for UC make up for that to me.
Could not agree more. Well said.

Just curious, but why did you not like Butch but liked Dantonio? Dantonio was far worse than those two with the way he felt about UC, how much he would bad mouth the program, even while coaching here and desperately looking to jump for any job opening there was. Is it because Butch was the most recent one to leave and people actually forget about Dantonio?
I dislike Butch as a coach. He made numerous mistakes to cost us games and he failed to recruit much on D. The lost child in the woods look on his face when other teams would make adjustments was always frustrating, too. His "rah rah" nonsense drove me crazy as well. I can't stand that stuff.
The guy just irritated me to no end. I guess I'm around the bend about it.

Exactly, BK interviewed with Tennessee (among others), so enthusiastic he wore a throw up orange tie while still employed at UC. Not sure why he gets a pass?

Mostly because his teams were better and won more games than either Dantonio's or Jones'.

Well, I don't follow our basketball team... I confess... but what about Mick? I've heard he's a UC guy and committed to UC.

I would say he's the exception to the rule. I don't know if it's because of growing up here or because of his shared custody of his daughter but he's not actively looking to climb the ladder. At least that's my perception.

Don't take the Cincy slams personal. It's an SEC thing

Tee Martin had nothing to do with Bama and the NCAA. He never even considered them coming out of HS. His recruitment was always a Tennessee-Auburn battle.
The Bama NCAA War started around 1997 with Kindell Moorehead a DL out of Memphis.

Just FYI, I am hearing that there is video of the fist-fight between Butch and the player down in Knoxville, and the word is that it is "damning."
(Butch is a former WVU assistant and so they were talking about it down here in Morgantown...)

Lyle told me he was offered the WVU HC and turned it down?

The thing about college basketball is that you don't need to be at a UK or Duke to win the NCAA tournament, although it makes recruiting easier. Mick can win at UC and he knows it. He has the program well positioned for another tourney invitation.
UC football will always be a stepping stone and if Tubbs is here until he retires, I hope he continues to build a winning program.

The definition of success are so different between the sports. In CBB most schools consider a Sweet Sixteen run a great season. In CFB, anything less than a New Year's Day bowl game is considered mediocre or possibly even a flop.

The sports are very different. Some schools are definitely easier to recruit to than others, but the impact of the pro option undercuts that advantage particularly in basketball. In four years, you can develop a less talented kid into a better player for your team's style than maybe you can having a more talented kid for only one year (and who may have one eye on the pros).
In football every school is basically a stepping stone. No matter what school you are at, if you are successful, there's always going to be a bigger school or the NFL calling. It doesn't always make a lot of sense, but the one exception is if you are older.
Notwithstanding the yahoos who want to fire the coach every time we lose a game (or even midgame if you read the game threads), I think our coaching tandem of Mick and Tubs is as stable as just about any pair at any other school in the country. That's got to help a bunch with recruiting which is obviously key.
