That was not a very good Texas team we lost to this season. Now 1-4 with Rice their only victory.
Why do people keep saying this?
You think WKU would've dominated Texas as thoroughly?

That's not as crazy as it seems. You can't make up 25 points in 3 possessions. You can make up 22 points in 3 possessions. Of course, if you're going to do that, you can't let Florida score.

#7 UCLA ran over Arizona last week.

Arizona State has already been slammed by both aTm and USC.

So of course, ASU is up 29-10 in the 3rd quarter at the Rose Bowl.

I think there is a lot to criticize in Strong's tenure at Texas so far. But they could go the rest of the season without making a first down and his body of work would remain far superior to our incumbent.

My only point--and we are deep into hypotheticals--is that if UT fires him, Rice could be right place/right time/right price fit for him to try to rehabilitate his career.

He spent four years at Notre Dame so, like Hat and Fred from the AFA, he knows what it's like to evaluate transcripts and test scores as well as game film when recruiting.

Am I missing something?
Strong is making 5 mil at UT. Let's say he takes a 60% pay cut to come to Rice. And can unbelievably poach some of his staff to come to Rice at 60% pay cuts. Then we fire Bailiff and buy his contract. That's a bill in the neighborhood of 5+ million dollars.
Dr K has set some goals for the football team, but I just don't see him and Leebron spending that kind of dough. Even if we had it. And we don't.
Not by a long shot.
And what makes you think that Strong would come to Rice? Our facilities? Our half finished EZF? Our strong academics and great graduation rate? Our potential to win a CUSA championship?
C'mon guys! Sometimes I think we live in an alternative universe on this board.

Nor do I live in the universe where Rice is going to spend over 5 million dollars to replace him with Charlie Strong.

Had UT played the way they did against us - WKU would have kicked their ass.

They were atrocious against us. The problem is it was 2 on 1 - Rice and UT teamed up to beat Rice.

Baylor offense keeps on rolling, and takes down Tech 63-35. I'm going to be interested to see what Baylor's average per game score is by the end of the year.

You are likely correct on both points. But how much does WKU's coaching staff make? Anybody? How about LaTech's coaches? Marshall's? MTSU's? Since we're all about comparing ourselves to our new "peers" and no longer the big boys we used to play with, since those games don't really matter, is it completely impossible to get better coaches at the level we're at now?

Any up-and-coming Texas (we're in Texas boys, where they play football like it's a religion from Pop-Warner through high school and up) high school coaches that are deserving of a shot and wouldn't mind taking the huge salary increase that a Rice job would be for them?

Toad hung on for the W 38-23. He's such a crappy coach this season that he only beat the #7 team in the country (at the moment).

Another less than spectacular week for C-USA. Temple crushed Charlotte. UMass beat FIU. Vandy beat Middle Tennessee. LaTech over ULaLa for the lone win

C-USA falls in Sagarin and is now behind the AAC, the MWC, the Missouri Valley and the MAC. We are now one place ahead of the Sun Belt.

Interesting. Their Sagarin ranking is closer to the P5 than anyone as well. Actually the gap between the AAC and the median P5 is smaller than the gap between C-USA and the AAC.

I'm a bit surprised that Todd Monken is #30. Southern Miss was a disaster when he got there, and he has shown pretty significant and consistent progress.
