RE: ULM - Georgia Southern
Might be important to note that GS had 469 yards of net offense against ULM in 2014, so all the talk about shutting down the GS offense might be a bit far fetched. The Eagles just couldn't finish drives, missed a short FG and two XP. They also decided not to go for a 38 yard FG because of the kicking woes and gave the ball up on downs.

Well, the kicking for GS has been perfect so far this season, as Hanks is 100% on XP and is 7/7 on FG attempts.

Both Ellison and Upshaw went out of that 2014 game with injuries and the GS 3rd string QB had to lead the Eagles to the win. Both Ellison and Upshaw are completely healthy now, as are the three main RB they are using - Breida, Ramsby and Fields. The OL with four new starters is coming together quickly.

It will be interesting to see how the Idaho trip affected GS. That redeye flight home after the game is brutal, and it takes a couple of days just to get your feet back under you after such a trip. ULM can be a tough place to play, and GS will undoubtedly get the Warhawks best shot, especially for homecoming.

ULM caught a break from the scheduling gods: I remember a Saturday MT visited GaSo with heavy rain forecasted......

Erk Veer: difficult to defend
Erk Veer in a hurricane: 26-0 win by the evil empire

That was actually the 2nd ever Thursday night ESPN game. Full game is on YouTube for folks who like crazy weather games.

Cliff isn't much different than some of our more homerish fans in that he sees only what reinforces his own opinion of things. Playing a competitive game against the Orange Bowl Champs means nothing but lose one game in a blowout fashion with a backup QB and several OL getting their first start then you get to harp on it forever apparently. I guess winning by 3 TDs on the road over a bowl team that proved to be an even match for the MAC runner-ups and Navy also counts for nothing.

The main source of our inconsistency thus far has been passing. I feel confident if our passing in September was like it was in November NC State and Tech wouldn't have been close and we may have lost to South Alabama as they would've gotten more scoring opportunities. As of now we're somewhere between September and November in terms of passing and better overall at running.

I guess I just come from the school that says, "We're a pretty good football team, but we've got a lot to work on. If we execute I feel like we can be competitive with anybody and the other team is the same way. "

This is opposed to thumping one's chest over winning 9 games in one season against teams in the bottom 40 of FBS. We are building the program toward being in the hunt for an access bowl, but we're nowhere near it - yet.

What do you mean nowhere near? Weren't we pretty much a consensus top 10 G5 last year?

I can agree that we aren't close to measuring up to Boise's best teams, but you don't necessarily have to be that good to get the access bowl.

I hope our goal is to be "that good" the same way we were "that good" in FCS. As far as consensus top 10 G5 - I don't know. Again, we lost against every team outside the bottom 40 that we played. I'm pleased with our early competitiveness and I believe the future is bright. Until then, I'm looking for improvement game to game.

I agree, we aren't even close to being a Boise State yet. We had one good year, we need 10 of those and a few bowl wins against P5's to be chest beaters. I like where we are but there is a long road ahead.

Gut feeling is Im confident in a GS win at the end of four quarters of play, but I won't feel good about it until the game is in hand.

I feel the same way. It's been fun so far, but to suggest we're anything other than what we are at this point is premature.
