RE: Week 5 - Miami of OH @ Kent State (Homecoming)
Our D is looking ready for MAC play, I'm excited to inject Holley and Murray back onto that lineup.

Our offense is doing everything they can to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

RE: Week 5 - Miami of OH @ Kent State (Homecoming)
We are very fortunate to have won that and as dominant as the defense was 90% of the game that is pathetic!!!! Haynes nearly gave it away with his overly conservative play calling and Reardon is beyond frustrating. That turnover (Reardon) at the very end was unacceptable and is what opened the floodgates for the rally.
Demetrius Monday is the next big thing at KSU and Dixon is showing moments of brilliance. We have a lot of pieces to the puzzle it seems, but Reardon is killing us!!

RE: Week 5 - Miami of OH @ Kent State (Homecoming)
After attending the game and sleeping on the results for a night, I have several observations to make. This was the worst attended HC at KSU in my more than 40 years of following. Of course the weather was a factor, but I have sat through storms and snow for HC with much better attendance.
We have some pieces and parts that can play. The defense plays well together and fundamentals are good. We tackle and cover well. I attribute this to Coach Haynes and his attention to detail on defense. If our offense would complement the defense, we could be winning some games.
I am beginning to think that the offense is suffering due to the Offense Coordinator. We have weapons on offense but the plays and the play calling is atrocious. Miami loaded the box on every play. We attempted to run into the teeth of the defense on most of our plays. I only remember several times that we went vertical with a pass play. Every one seems to want to blame the QB and it might be justified, but IMO, he is not given the plays to utilize the weapons that he has. Readon is not without ability. His size is good. His feet are good. His arm is good enough. He has no plays. I personally liked the previous OC. Remember, this OC was fired as a head coach and helped to destroy the Miami program. BTW, that was the worst Miami team to ever play at Dix. What a shame that a once proud and very good program is close to Delaware State in quality.
I love this Dixon kid and Calhoun is exciting also. Our band is really getting good but no one to watch them. Just a bunch of random thoughts on Sunday morning.

Reardon, through 5 games has 550 yards passing with a 44% completion rate. Those numbers could make anyone puke.

RE: Week 5 - Miami of OH @ Kent State (Homecoming)
Reardon leaves a lot to be desired and so does our play calling. We're getting absolutely nothing from our WRs. Not sure if that's on the Receivers, on Reardon, or on the play calling. Probably a combination of all three. Our top receiver, Kris White, hasn't had a single catch in the last two games and I can't even remember him being targeted yesterday. The only receivers getting touches are Dixon and Simmons and both of them are more of slot receivers that get short screen passes. That's not going to get it done. Opposing defenses have no reason to respect our passing game. They only have to be worried about short passes, screens, and runs. It's incredibly frustrating because our defense is elite and we have very good special teams. (Hynes has impressed me so far too). So if we could just keep the offense on the field for awhile we could dominate TOP and field position.
I know it's early to be talking about next year, but I can't help but think how good this team could be next year. Our defense is already dominate and we only start 3 Srs. Those 3 Srs are all key players (Italiano, Dellinger, and Terhune) but I would argue that our best defensive players are Monday, Waugh, Holley, and Cunningham who will all be back. Not to mention Cuthbert appears to be more than capable of stepping in when Italiano is gone. I was impressed with some of the young DB's yesterday as well. Robinson and McRae in particular. I'd say the defensive secondary has been a huge bright spot under Haynes.

Does anyone know what happened to Monday? I don't recall seeing him at all in the 4th qtr and we were getting torched through the air.

They said on TV it was his back. He was on the sidelines with tape wrapped around his whole lower abdomen. He was laughing and joking around down there so didn't appear to be anything serious.
I also forgot to give Shane Hynes a kudos yesterday (prompted by the post above). It appears we FINALLY found a true successor to Freddy. Melchiori is an absolute beast, but I was never keen on the idea of letting him kick and punt.
