Yeah we have big issues should have put off playing for a couple more years if it meant finding a better coach and getting a stadium built.

RE: Official Game Thread: Saint Francis
Our issues revolve around the fact that we over-recruited the local area and it is clear that purely on talent, we belong on the field with Maryville and Emory & Henry. If we had experience, we would do well at that level and likely compete for conference championships.

We are FCS and must recruit FCS level talent. On the latest "inside the dome" segment, Sanders said that we would be up to around 59 scholarships next year and that we would recruit more transfer students. I hope that half of these transfers are linemen. Both lines are terrible.

So far, I have heard no criticism at all of our assistant coaches. Is this because it is easier to criticize someone who doesn't have an ETSU background? For what its worth, the offensive line coach was very vocal today. He seemed to be the only one who cared about what was going on.

Sander, a basketball guy, identifies the major issue -- recruiting. And, since when does your AD tell what the next recruiting cycle strategy will be? Perhaps even he is suggesting that more transfers should have been signed from the get go. I can't imagine not having a number of FBS bench warmers who would jump at the chance of actually playing college ball before exhausting their eligibility sitting on that bench. This team will likely go 0-11.

Torbush should have done his research. Recruiting was always the big issue with modern ETSU football. One would have thought that the VERY FIRST priority of building the program would have been RECRUITING. Give him credit, he did conduct a nice public relations campaign across the region. He should have seen this coming, unless he is just not the person to build a college football program from scratch -- plus dealing with the issues of not having a stadium to play in and recruit with. Most likely the ETSU athletic department can't wait for basketball season to start and football season to end -- how sad.

I think Sander has a say so, because he is the director. The athletic director. it's almost like he is in charge.

I think that would produce something very positive in a very down season. We know we have some big losses coming up on the road. To get the last two home games in the books as wins would give a large boost towards Spring practice and next year. Add in this year's red shirts and this Fall's recruiting I think we can improve in a big way by next Fall.

Eight SoCon teams next Fall --- with VMI about the only one that we have any chance at all against, with luck. Let's face it, until Torbush (or someone else) recruits FCS players, we'll continue to suffer. He has recruited a below average Division II team -- not at all their fault, but it's on him for grossly underestimating the level of player needed at this level.

I don't have any inside info here, but it may have been the best players he could recruit to a start up program at a school who canned the program 10 years earlier. He may have done the best with what he could get.

RE: Official Game Thread: Saint Francis (L 9-58)
I am loving seeing the merchandise pop up at all the stores also. I like the new symbol but still cannot find a polo shirt with the new E and the word football under it like the coaches wear. Same with the hats. I guess that is restricted to the coaches? I sure would like to have one of those shirts and hats though.
I think I posted this under the wrong thread. Sorry.

Here http://www.etsugear.com/east_tennessee_s...eve_shirts

Any of the ones with "Select-a-Logo" options have the ETSU and Football. Might be able to contact them and see if they can do one with just the E logo and Football under it instead.

Yes I have tried going to this web site but their select-a-logo does not offer the E with football underneath. I have not tried calling them yet. Does Cracker Barrell carry them?

I don't remember seeing anything other than just the base E at Cracker Barrel. They had cups, mugs and Christmas ornaments, in addition to some shirts.

Also, just finding a polo with the E and a local embroidery shop for the Football part under would work too. Honestly might be cheaper that way too.

ETSU is head and shoulders above many other FCS regional state universities with relation to majors and degree offerings, degrees that lead to actual jobs. Since few FCS players make it to the NFL, there's a stronger incentive to earn a degree at this level. Hope our coaches are pushing the academic side of ETSU hard, especially with parents, in their recruiting. Advantage should be with ETSU here, and recruiting should not be second to anyone at this level.

It may have been done already, but ETSU, or anyone for that matter, should make a commercial with players dressed as professionals (doctors, nurses, businessmen, etc.) on the field playing a game - and they can state that it's more than just football.
