So who's heading to the BIG D?
I will be there with my son from Friday morning (hitting the State Fair) until Monday (hitting the Cowboys game).

94, I used to have a lakefront house on Lake Ray Hubbard, on the Rowlett side. I heard the lake has dried up. Is that true?

RE: SMU Roll Call
I have been trading a few emails with the DFW Alumni Branch leadership about potential attendance for Saturdays game. Here is my latest email to them from earlier this morning, addressing their question about attendance at JMU away games:
I have found that if the team is doing well or if early in the season expectations are high, JMU shows up for road games. I love road games as most fans planning on showing, will show in bad weather. At home games, attendance is very weather related. Also the more rabid fans attend, wear purple and know how and when to cheer during the games. 300-500 crazed fans can make a lot of noise. At home, those laidback genteel farmers of the Shenandoah Valley, (you know, the "Yup" and "Nope" types ) act embarrassed by us loud fans and just shake their heads. Actually I imagine few of them are farmers but I have no good label to paint on the thousands of fans that come to the games to NOT cheer.
I yell at them: "Go to the Library if you want quiet" They answer: " We can't read." So there is no hope for them, as they can't read how I am trying to embarrass them. Oh Well.
Trips to the bigger Metro area games, Villanova at Philadelphia might get 800-1000 JMU fans IMO. I was happy that at the last JMU game vs, New Hampshire we had about 125. William and Mary and Richmond games might approach 1000, I may be a bit high on that. I felt we easily had 1000 at Maryland and in prior years at North Carolina when we played the "bigger" schools. To my thinking I am hoping for 500 at SMU and think that would be a good turnout. Under 300 and I would be disappointed.

Cool perspective from you roadwarrior, although I will say we are definitely well over 1,000 at Richmond even after they took away our home field advantage at City Stadium.

Last wmgt game we had at least 1/3 and close to half of one side of those stands packed with purple clad fans. Don't know what that equates to in numbers- others disbursed in end zone temp bleachers too

RE: SMU Roll Call
Still on the fence, trying to figure out if I can do the quick Southwest flights in the early AM and make it work on the cheap. A couple of other potential trips (i.e., flights) that are upcoming in my schedule are making me hold out. I am 20% likely to go, but the fact that I will be away from this country for so long has me itching to jump on a plane and watch the Dukes in TX.

I think you are right. I had forgotten how we had made that end zone purple!! And at the old City Stadium we probably had 6000. But alas we used to get 25000 at home.
