THE 9 DUMBEST THINGS IN RUTGERS KYLE FLOOD REPORT
THIS IS SOME EXCELLENT IDIOCY... from the folks at Everyday Should Be Saturday. 04-cheers

THE NINE DUMBEST THINGS IN THE RUTGERS REPORT ON KYLE FLOOD
EDSBS Wrote:Rutgers Head Coach Kyle Flood just got suspended for three games and fined $50,000 for directly contacting a professor who'd given one of his players a grade that made him ineligible. Because this combines my two primary areas of expertise - mediocre legal analysis and gawking at a football disaster from a safe distance - I have brought you the nine dumbest things that transpired according to the released report.

I give that level of incompetence a 5-star (on a 5 star scale):

This is what can happen when you hire a new coach in a panic after the guy(s) you really wanted turn you down.

http://espn.go.com/new-york/ncf/story/_/...nights-job
Quote:Rutgers assistant Kyle Flood has been hired as the team's coach, getting his first chance to run a major college program. . . .

The hiring of Flood came after Florida International coach Mario Cristobal decided not to join Rutgers after receiving a contract offer on Monday. . . . Cristobal, a former Rutgers assistant who has been with FIU for five seasons, appeared to be Rutgers' first choice, but he decided to stay in Miami. . . .

With Cristobal out of the picture, Pernetti quickly turned to Flood, who is expected to provide stability after Schiano's exit left the school scrambling for a replacement less than a week before national signing day, which is Wednesday.

Actually Norries Wilson is the interim coach. Someone just pointed out that the two newest Big 10 schools, Maryland and Rutgers, both have former UConn coaches running their teams now.

I think this is as close as UConn gets to the Big 10, unfortunately... although they do play Michigan and Ohio State in basketball this year and Indiana and Illinois in football coming up.

The Rutgers "dumpster fire" makes it a lot hard for the Big 10 to consider Connecticut. It's like having a really bad pick in the fantasy football draft. next pick you can't mess up.

I agree. Although, UCONN's "dumpster fire" qualities are only its current football product and game attendance. Rutgers' "dumpster fire" includes everything but their geography.

Neither will be in their current job for much longer. The only thing saving Edsall right now is his buyout, since Maryland's financial problems have yet to be resolved. But after next season, his buyout is reduced to nothing.

What is with the Northeast and mid Atlantic schools and their academics?

U. Conn., Syracuse, Rutgers, Maryland, North Carolina

I may have missed some. Some of these were mostly basketball that got hit hard.

Not all schools have an acceptance rate of 90% (04-jawdrop) like Arkansas Tech.

UConn had a bunch of kids they basically through off the basketball team get bad grades after they left the team. And Beau Archibald texted a kid a lot who never played a game at UConn. That's UConn's academic issues.

Now they also had some kids do bad things (stolen laptops... year long suspension) but they handled it themselves. Couple airplane ticket issues coming home from a game. Boatright's mystery suspension. It's not like they invented classes so their athletes could get summer A's. I took some summer classes with UConn basketball players. They were fair classes, neither super hard or super easy, compared to other classes I took there. Souleymane Wane let me borrow his notes once... handwriting was so sloppy I thought it was in arabic.. but once I figured out how to read it, he was taking good notes and obviously trying in the class.

Also I hear what happened at Maryland really wasn't that bad either.

Attendance actually isn't an issue for us. Not amazing, but given the stadium size and an average product for the last several years its pretty good in the high 40s. Last season was about a 50K average. Otherwise yes a dumpster fire.

Update: 2014 was a nearly 51K average attendance. Putting Rutgers at 43rd in the nation. Again that would not qualify as being part of the unmitigated dumpster fire.
