RE: Week 2 Pick'em
akron pitt game should be interesting. pitt lost its top offensive player to a first game injury. akron has some talent which could make a redemptive appearance. pitt is no oklahoma. i'd expect something along the lines of 20-16 game either way.
ball state has a way of showing up in losses to powerhouse teams. they can't beat TAMU because they can't really stop them, but they could do enough on offense to keep the game about as interesting as 15th ranked arizona st did on a neutral field.
kent st will struggle to beat anyone judged on their first game, but teams do improve... we can hope
toledo going into an emerging sec power in arkansas depending on 5 new oline starters and their 3rd and 4th string rbs is tough. arkansas pass defense is good but not dominant and toledo has the weapons to move the ball in the air if everyone comes to play. utep had no hope of stopping arkansas offense. we'll see how much better toledo's d is.

Marshall v Ohio best game on the card. That's a SOLID win for Marshall @ Purdue. Both teams in the opener look better than expected. An Ohio win dies well for confrense.

Purdue was in Huntington... Marshall was probably favored by as much as they won.
An OU win sounds like it would be a huge upset. Going on the records of the teams last season at least? Marshall struggles with odd teams tho. Hopefully OU can pull one out.

I don't think OU winning would be a huge upset. They beat Marshall 3 times in a row prior to last year. And Marshall doesn't have Cato and Shuler anymore. (Shuler?? Shuler??)

Marshall is 6-21-3 at Ohio all time and 3-3 in Athens since 1998 with all 3 wins by 7pts or less. Marshall's last win in Peden was 2004 when they won 16-13 without their offense scoring a TD. Ohio missed a 32yd FG to tie it on the final possession of the game.
In other words, if history is any indication, this game should be competitive. Not to sound like a homer but if you get a chance, tune in and watch. Herd fans travel well, the stadium will be packed, and both teams will be bringing it. Ohio v Marshall is one of the better G5 non-con rivalries, it should be entertaining.

As far as all time stats I am one to bring them up frequently. They're a fun conversation on past results. Any information on records of Marshall vs. OU's in those games?

Ohio's D is going to be their problem. I like Vick at QB. I noticed him last year and I thought "Good thing we didn't face him all game long". He gave NIU a run for their money, even though NIU also played everyone too close in their post-Lynch-hangover.
I think it's a little ballsy to pick OU to beat them. I think Marshall Should be the favorite, but it's in Ohio, and they're going to be pumped to beat Marshall. If I had to bet MONEY, I would bet on Marshall in a straight-up bet -- but would still have to think about it a lot, and not be comfortable making the bet either. However, I pick OU here because of bias + OU can legitimately win it without it being any big surprise. A rivalry game. A "You ARE Marshall. You lost, b!tch. Eat it."

I LOVE IT!!!!
By the way, Marshall is only favored by three, so if Ohio wins, it will not be a huge upset, but it sure will be a very tasty victory!!!!!

Back in 2000, I had mine, back when Marshall was king of the East (and ranked high with Pennington), and WMU was king of the West. Ranked Marshall came into Kzoo, and I stole the Marshall flag, getting tackled by Marshall alumni as I did the option pass to another guy who came out there with me and he ran it back. We burned it. Harassed their fans (old people driving in).
So the Voodoo attempt didn't work, as they won the game. BUT, they were much better then as they were now (except last year, Marshall was close to as good). :)

I looked for our shenanigans in Crime Beat in the paper, where people are busted for pot or booze... I was SO disappointed that it wasn't in there!
Then I saw a totally separate article titled "Marshall Flag Burned, Fans Harassed at Game". Then I felt better. It did exaggerate and said I hopped a fence from the Rec Center parking lot into the track & field (where the Marshall tent was) and did it all by myself as the sole mysterious Bronco. I was not such a miraculous hero. I ran out there with another guy who lagged behind me as a side-kick who I relied on catching the ball (flag) and running home with it... and there was no fence hopping required.
But before I am crucified for such actions of my youth, remember this and only this: It WAS Marshall.

that's crazy.
sidenote: King as in... won the west? Or King as in ruled the west?
Toledo beat Marshall 42-0 that year and had maybe the best defense in the history of the MAC. Not sure how we lost to WMU, because I was only 6 I don't recall. Was it rainy or something and Toledo turned the ball over a lot or something?
Anyways, UT was the best team in the MAC that year, regardless if we were "King."
Not trying to be a troll on the comment. Just wondering.

Correction: 1999 was when the shenanigans went down, sorry. In 1999 & 2000 we won the West. In 2000 we beat Marshall at Marshall, and regular season but lost at the end in the MACC game lost at Marshall. Funny how it seemed like it was at Marshall a lot in the dawn of the MACC game. In 1999 we had Marshall at home, when all that went down.
