Section 121 gave them a rowsing standing ovation. Glad I got video. It was that good.

Just made it back to Cowtown. Road trip from hell, but damn it was worth it. I'm buying you one of those A&M band jumpsuits. The deer will never see you coming. Screw the bow and arrow. Drop 'em with a tuba.

I'm too old to carry those things upright all game like they did. Tired me out just watching them last night. Although when all 30 of them turned it up to 11 and blew, it was a thing to behold.

When I pass away some day, rather than some sour puss wake, see if that band is available for private gigs I won't get to enjoy it but perhaps turn it in to Festivus for the bereaved.

And yes, I think I could stick the landing rocking one of those jumpsuits.

What was with the goofy crowd participation song? And was that Terren singing with the band? ~Sigh.

A&M's band played at one level: LOUD. Entertaining, fun to watch.

If you didn't notice in the first quarter, they were making music for an extended period of time while their own team had the ball. They just kept playing and playing and playing. Could you imagine if our band had THAT kind of sound? I'm convinced we need to go to all brass. And get a new band director.

That was bad. They said sung to the tune of "Back Home Again" and I was getting ready to do my best John Denver impression.

Best part was they said the words would be on the big screen to follow along and then they ran text ads... .Billy and I were singing "Jeff Wyler Kia. Bud Light, Wellington Orthopedics, Bridgecreek Retirement Village..."

I half expected last year's nightmare season of Billy Joel hits..."Let's go Bearcat fans put your hands together for The Piano Man......"

During the lightning delay when it was raining sideways their band was in the tunnel by the visiting locker room and busses....they must have gotten bored so they started jamming out just for themselves. Loved it.

Big drum line. Huge brass section. They played as loud as their lungs and arms could crank out.

Also, they stood at military attention all game. The 30 tuba guys were at the ready all game long. Those guys were legit.

RE: Game Day
our pregame experience ...

Tailgating in Campus Green went well. Had a great spot to see the beginning of the Catwalk . Shade when you needed it . CBA bathrooms next door.

And of course...5 minutes after walking into Nippert the skies opened open. Us and a about a dozen took shelter under the Great Lakes Brewing Beer tent

after the wind and lightning kicked up this tent didn't seem like a great idea so when made a run for it and stood with the masses on the new east concourse walkway under the Pavilion. after about 45 min there , heard 5/3rd was open for shelter.

from there went exploring and ended up in Armory

and caught a cool sky pic about 8:00p

I sang that Wyler part with gusto. He better fix my ride at a reasonable rate.

Great win Bearcats! Any loss for A&M is a win for good ole ASU. I'm glad you guys were able to win big and avoid any major injuries.

P.S- if you think A&Ms band was good you might want to YouTube some of the bands in the SWAC. A&M is only a middle tier band in our conference. The Kings of the block are Jackson State and Southern(see the link below)

As GH notes, the bands in the SWAC and most HBCUs are big time from an entertainment standpoint. They often play throughout the game, not as a sign of disrespect to the teams but because the bands are THE reason many of the fans show up. The bands are the big spectacles at the game, not the star QB or RB. The movie Drumline shows a highly Hollywood-ized view but the competition and recruiting drama is very real. If you get a chance, a visit to the annual Battle of the Bands in the ATL is a must see. It's sponsored by Honda and is their Super Bowl.
