RE: College Football Interest
The pinnacle for VT was the 2000 National Championship loss to Florida State. They have been riding the Vick wave down ever since. They usually have 2-3 wins over ranked teams throughout the season and have won the ACC 4 times in 11 years in that league. Their seasons break down like so:
- Final Rank - #6, Won Gator Bowl, 11-1
- Final Rank - #18, Lost Bowl Game, 8-4
- Final Rank - #18, Won Bowl Game, 10-4
- Final Rank - Not Ranked, Lost Bowl Game - 8-5
- Final Rank - #10, Lost Bowl Game, 10-3
- Final Rank - #7, Won Gator Bowl, 11-2
- Final Rank - #18, Lost Bowl Game, 10-3
- Final Rank - #9, Lost Bowl Game, 11-3
- Final Rank - #14, Won Orange Bowl, 10-4
- Final Rank - #10, Won Chick Fil-A Bowl, 10-4
- Final Rank - #15, Lost Orange Bowl (40-12 beatdown by Stanford), 11-3, also lost to JMU this year.
- Final Rank - #17, Lost Sugar Bowl, 11-3
- Final Rank - Not Ranked, Won Russell Athletic Bowl, 7-6
- Final Rank - Not Ranked, Lost Sun Bowl (42-12 to UCLA), 8-5
- Final Rank - Not Ranked, Won Military Bowl, 7-6
I especially hate VT, so researching and typing this all out was very therapeutic for me. Although, I have to admit, Ten 10+ win seasons over a 16 year period is pretty impressive, but they have really fallen off the past 3 years.
