Awesome
Wonder if Forbes has ever written about any other MAC coach?

It's a nice story, but isnt this premature for a sub .500 coach!
A lot of the culture building and salesmanship fosters higher expectations even though the coach is sub .500. The media is even expecting big things....Lets hope it happens.

Can another MAC coach leap tall buildings in a single bound? Can another MAC coach fire up a team and fans like Red Bull is tapped into the water lines?! Heck no!
Gotta love his energy!!

Results don't define us. It's all about the process (of self-promotion?)

Putting on the cynical cap here..god forbid the guy has a terrible year...that would create a really weird dynamic with all the positive press. Like a high school coach told me yesterday. That Fleck guy is crazy and says anything and that is fine if you win.

RE: Forbes on Fleck
I said that last year, with all this talk, he had better deliver. Serious. We're in a precarious spot.
Looks like he might, and we'll all be better off. I don't want to think of any other scenario.

Well, apparently it's not so fine with old-school fans, though. Improving to 8W and MAC Coach of the Year wasn't enough for some fans. In some people's minds, it's like Huge ran the team or something - lol. But I get what you're saying, though. All-around, it amps up the Good, and it amps up the Bad. Hope for the continuing of the Good this year, obviously.

He did deliver last year. However, yeah, we just can't have *1* good, respectable season. We'll need to be better than last year, although measuring record for record won't be an indicator * by itself since this year's is Much harder. Barring any notable injuries this year: Obviously if we're under .500 we can't say that we were even As good as last year. At 6-6, it's possible to say that we were roughly As good as last year, but things would have to stick out that one couldn't easily ignore. If we go 7-5, it's money in the bank that we're at least as good, and safe to say we're most likely better given the schedule. 8-4? Oh, most definitely better, unless some crazy sh!t went down against our tough competition.
*See NIU last year @10-2 regular season, yet with its history not ranked in any polls. They were not as good as record indicated in their rebuilding year. The opposite many times is true, too.

Yeah, all this attention - the national radio shows, magazine articles, name-dropping for P5 jobs - is making me feel uneasy.
One year ago, our opponents were overlooking us and expecting us to do next to nothing, so much so that Miami's coach felt comfortable mocking Fleck at MAC media day.
Now we've got the proverbial bulls-eye on our back, and Fleck's got a mountain of press fawning to live up to.

Yes, Rod Carey has proven to be quite a bargain. Of course, if NIU ends up with double-digit wins, he's not going to be wanting his $10/hr anymore.

I hope Fleck decides to run more than the two plays he did in the 2nd half of our game last year.
Good luck. Show well for the conference. Should be a fun day for you all.

RE: Forbes on Fleck
Fleck could've been HC at his alma mater after Doeren left if he didn't quit as OC after one day.
Their loss, our gain?

We are more than happy with Rod Carey. Enjoy PJ; this year you'll see what you've really got.

To a lesser extent, I'd say the same thing for Carey. This is Carey's year to show where the rubber meats the broad... I mean, the rubber meets the road! In terms of being hired elsewhere anytime soon, that is. Carey's shown he's at LEAST an adequate coach for the time being -- but this year will show whether he's P5-hire-worthy in-the-now. With WMU's schedule, and PJ's lack of OC/DC experience, it's going to be next year. But yeah, this year is PJ's time to show that we're a Legit MAC West contender that nobody wants to face. If we show that this year, it'll be great, and we can pretty much bank that the end of next year would be PJ's final year given that schedule compared to this year's.
