At least there are reasonable responses to four consecutive NCAA tourneys, the last three locks, with two of them ending one game short of the sweet sixteen, followed by a down 18-14 season. Certainly disappointing last year, and falling short of the sweet sixteen those two years was also, and should this coming season be like last season I would certainly advocate that a change is in order.

Hardly equals dumpster fire or the Titanic, but, not seeking Internet attaboy so either.

Too bad daddy quitter boy left after being made the focus.

It never ceases to amaze me how regardless of how low the program sinks, there is always a sunshine pumper to somehow create a rational via the transitive property that everything is still wonderful.

If we lost at home to Lehigh, these posters would simply cite the time they beat Duke in the NCAA, comparing Pastner to Coach K after such a loss.

So hey guys, no cause at all for alarm regarding our recruiting! We are among 20 schools listed for the services of the #88 player in the nation, along with some JUCOs that are also considering juggernauts such as Ole Miss, Arkansas and Missouri.

In fairness to Mimi, he only does that to prove he can be as big a "jerk" as he perceives people are to Pastner. He is trying to prove a point about the board, not the actual basketball team.

Really.

(in the Calkins lexicon) One wonders if the Commercial Appeal "lead columnist" actually reads....the Commercial Appeal?

Because....as Jason Smith reports in the Aug 24 CA report on recruiting, 4-star and 88th ESPN-ranked Charlie Moore will be visiting the Tigers Oct 2-4.

Notwithstanding the high JUCO recruits Pastner is competing to recruit along with Pitt, Cal Berkeley, Ole Miss, Ark, Missouri, Indiana, Xavier, UNLV, Baylor, LSU etc

So:

1. The players Pastner is recruiting are in demand contrary to the endlessly idiotic ramblings on this board and Calkins/Parrish

2. Yes YES he is "in" with multiple players in the Top 100 (read Rivals recruits' college lists)

This is more than "lazy reporting". This is WILLFUL misrepresentation and will eventually blow up in Calkins' (and the itinerant impotent naysayers) face(s).

And this is Harvard journalism?

Really.

A post motivated by LOVE for our U of M. Thank you b- bob. 04-bow

Why does it matter where calkins went to school to write? He is a Harvard educated atty. And has won multiple awards for his journalistic abilities. I graduated from u of m with a ba in journalism. I Had a desire to pursue another career and am now an RN. Gary parish graduated from u of m. Are ya going to question his journalistic abilities!?! They are both columnists. They express their opinions. If ya don't like their opinions, don't read their columns.
But please buy a copy of the commercial appeal daily and appreciate that we still have a local newspaper to read.

Wrong, he's been making posts like that for years. Ever see him dig through a game thread after the game was over?

Mimi is wrong. He keeps bringing up NCAA tourneys and apparently 1 bad season.

He's neglecting the transfers, the player comments, the overall mismanagement of the program, the lack of a system or identity for 6 years, the mismanagement of the staff, the decline in recruiting, the decline in attendance, the declining support and so on...

It's cool that his claim to fame is a 2-4 NCAA Record though. Impressive.

Oh wait, he's probably gonna throw in all those amazing wins against C-USA and sub 200 RPI OOC Teams...

Dude. I'm writing this from a tablet. Capitalization is not a necessity. It's the point that's important.
If it wasn't for Calkins, and especially Parish, this program would be far less relevant from a national standpoint than most understand. We should be appreciative. Not attacking.
Once again, they are columnists. They express and write their opinions.
Additionally, if you've read ANY articles from the Wall Street journal, ny times, USA today, ESPN, yahoo or cnn there are so many grammatical errors they are difficult to read.

So, as a columnist, he should be less apt to be judged for his meandering simplicity and duplicitous statements than, say, a first grader?

He's been named best sports columnist in the country three times. He's won five Green Eyeshade awards as the best sports columnist in the South.
He's a perennial winner in The Memphis Flyer's best columnist category and was named best sports television personality by Memphis Sport Magazine for his work on WKNO-TV. Not bad for a guy who graduated from Harvard and Harvard Law School and then decided the legal business was not for him.

Somebody with his credentials . . . Apparently he's done a whole lot better in his profession than say . . . Josh pastner.
Please don't get me wrong. CJP is an asset to our community. He called a friend of mine after his 2 y.o. son died.
But to attack calkins is not fair.
