As an aside, Leipold's best hire is wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator Rob Ianello, who quite easily ranks as one of the premier recruiters in all of college football.

1) What else can Jarvion Franklin do?
Stop fumbling. Franklin put the FB on the turf 9 times last season, losing it
3 times. Nobody has really mentioned this.
2) Ely ranked behind EMU's Bell as a QB. That is moronic.
3) George Bork is the MAC's all time great QB? How about Chuck Ealey
35-0 in the MAC. 8th in Heisman voting. First Team All American QB- The Football News. 2nd Team All American QB -UPI. 3rd Team All American QB AP. Even Gene Swick might be considered: 1rst Team All American QB UPI
10th in the Heisman. Winner of the Sammy Baugh Award as the nation's best passer.

What has Ely accomplished as a MAC QB? NOTHING.

3) George Bork is the MAC's all time great QB? How about Chuck Ealey?

I love Myerberg but he must have had a brain cramp here.
Quote:This list doesn't include players from Akron and Buffalo from before joining the MAC, nor any NIU players from before 1973 or from 1986-96. Make sense?

Bork's last year at NIU was 1963.

Have read a fee articles slamming Toledo because they have not beaten the Huskies in a while, not sure that is fair. Seems more nasty than right. UMASS and Ball St appear to be lurking and could pull a surprise. Both coaches OUTSTANDING.

I consider it fair. MAC goes through DeKalb until otherwise. Interesting that Toledo's only lost 8 MAC games during that same period. Of course 5 to NIU.

It's definitely fair. Our very good teams of 2002, 2003 and 2004 could not get past Toledo. Those 3 Huskie teams lost a total of FOUR MAC games. Not beating Toledo ended up costing the 2002 and 2004 teams a spot in the MACC. Not beating Toledo in 2003 cost that Huskie team a bowl game.

NIU vs the MAC the past 5 seasons-

3-2 in MACC
3-2 v CMU
35-0 v everybody else

Hard to argue NIU shouldn't be #1 in a preseason poll until somebody puts a dent in those numbers.

One of those was really costly. On the 1 yard line ready to score and essentially put NIU away.

Still, given he's our best candidate for an RB "star" we've had since Robert Sanford, it's forgiven.

Don't think Bork ever played in the MAC. He missed it by about ten years.

As someone who has followed UB recruiting for about 10 years I am going to say this is spot on...

http://www.ubbullrun.com/2015/7/24/90303...-2015-2016

(some of the star data is off on my page, I will fix it later)

All of our recruits are three starts according to 247 and/or Scout. All but one of our recruits was won against other FBS schools, several against P5 schools, and most against MAC schools.

Our average 247 rating is I believe second or third in the conference.

I know that to a lot of you these are not phenomenal accomplishments but he (iCoach) is dong better than Quinn or even Gill did in terms of pulling in higher profile recruits.

He may have sucked as a head coach at Akron and the jury is out on what he does with UB's Wide receivers but as a recruiter I am a believer.

As an Akron fan, don't believe the hype about him.

Say what you want about his recruiting at Arizona and/or ND, but we got to see it first hand here. I would be very, very concerned. IDK anything about Western New York in regards to recruiting, maybe, just maybe he can salvage his career.

It was not Arizona, he landed a top 25 class at KANSAS! why people cant separate out a head coach from a position / recruiting is beyond me. Some of the best assistent coaches anywhere would make a poor head coach.

It's young in the recruiting season yet but

Buffalo (Ianello) Avg 247 Rating: 0.8097 - # of recruits 7
Akron (Bowden) Avg 247 Rating: 0.8098 - # of recruits 2

The only other MAC school averaging better than .8 is WMU with 13 recruits and a 0.81 rating.

I get the Ianello hate, I really do. Jeff Quinn was a miserable head coach. Though he is a damn fine OL coach.

Ianello is an awful WR coach, though. At Kansas they couldn't wait to move him to an office job.

RE: Myerberg, USA Today on the MAC
Fans who have failed head coaches like to demonize them as the sole problem for their schools' failures. It's rarely the case. There are a lot of factors that go into a program's demise and the head coach is a big part of it. But there are almost always institutional factors that play into the problems, too. It's just easier to dump it all on a fired coach. You saw it with Miami and Treadwell. By all accounts, he has been an excellent AC before and after. Some guys just blow their head coaching opportunities. Belichek's tenure in Cleveland was a mess. He might not have been given another chance based on that. In hindsight, it's clear there were problems in that franchise that made success almost impossible at the time. But like I said, it's easy and very tidy to just blame it all on the guy who is gone and not own the other problems.

Right because Rob Ianello was the problem at KU

UMass has 18 returning starters, a returning HC, 3 of the Eastern Divisions 7 first team all conference O/D position players and Myersberg ranks them 5th in the division behind a Buffalo team with 7 total returning starters, a new HC and only first team all conference pick is a returner.

Strange.

UMass should do better then #5
