Right because Rob Ianello was the problem at KU

Yep ND#2 at Lawrence was a complete dud.

There are a lot of factors that go into a program's demise and the head coach is a big part of it. But there are almost always institutional factors that play into the problems, too. It's just easier to dump it all on a fired coach. You saw it with Miami and Treadwell. By all accounts, he has been an excellent AC before and after. Some guys just blow their head coaching opportunities.

Miami certainly had a lot of problems within its athletic program during Treadwell's tenure, but it's not like the guy was inheriting a scrub team with no winning history; he was given the keys to the reigning MAC champion with a few NFL caliber players, a rich history, and an above average budget at his disposal. If you saw us play in 2013, you saw the work of a legitimately awful head coach who wrecked a program that looked to be on the upswing. I agree with your overall point however, though something like the laundry list of EMU coaches would probably be a better example.

Strange.

UMass should do better then #5

Buffalo has more than seven returning starters, USA today is way off there.

QB: Licata. RB: Taylor. FB: Patterson. TE: Weiser. LT: Kling. LG: Guy. C: O’Hagan. RG: Manosalvas. RT: Blodgett. WR: Willoughby, Lisa.

DL: Solomon Jackson, Max Perisse, Brandon Crawford, Demone Harris. LB: Okezie Alozie, Nick Gilbo, Kyril Threats. CB: Boise Ross, Marqus Baker. S: Ryan Williamson, Andrews Dadeboe.

9 returning. the bigger concern for Buffalo is that the move to a 4-3 has taken our bigger linebackers and moved them to the line.

And maybe UB was picked ahead of UMass because we slaughtered them last year with an interim coach on their home field.

I hope UB and every other MAC team that plays UMass kicks the crap out of them this year. Just like Temple a few years ago, don't want to see any success for a team that's leaving the MAC.

Send 'em out like we did UCF - 0-8 in conference in their final year. I believe they played in the CUSA conference championship the following year.

Umass fb is no loss for the MAC. I was at Foxborough for the NIU drudging a few years ago.

That stadium and the few hundred fans were great ... their team was ridiculously bad. They have a longggggggggggggggggg way to come. The MAC teams playing them this year will have the extra edge ...not that they need it.

RE: Myerberg, USA Today on the MAC
I wish UMass no ill-will but we gave them the golden ticket to paradise and received absolutely nothing in return. Not even gratitude.

side note- Here's a list of all of the new* football programs (*NIU and Marshall retreads excluded) the MAC has added in the last 40 years and their overall records while a member of the conference. The number in parenthesis by their name is their winning % rank compared to the 12 current MAC members during that specific time period-

.565 (35-27-0) Temple(2/13), '07-'11
.361 (96-170-1) Akron(9/12), '92-pres.
.286 (10-25-0) UCF(12/13), '02-'04
.275 (52-147-0) Buffalo(11/12), '99-pres.
.139 (5-31-0) UMass(13/13), '12-pres.

If the MAC every decides to add another new member we have to do a better job of selecting a football program that will elevate the conference.

Our last year in the MAC, we lost by 3 to BG, and by 4 to OU. Our only big loss was to Toledo.

Temple won like 0 games vs. >.500 teams in MAC play right? That's the stat which matters the most. They did their job vs. the bottom but struggled elsewhere. I thoroughly enjoyed keeping Bernard Pierce under 75 yards.

UMASS > Temple. Expecting a very good things for UMASS this year. Solid coach, good QB definitely a contender in the East.

USA Today is not a credible news source. They have always fashioned themselves as the fast food of news operations with a lack of credible substance on any topic. Why accept this blithering fools take on our conference when he has probably never personally witnessed a game

The loss of ECU, UCF, Cincy, Tulsa, Houston, and to a lesser extend USF, SMU & Memphis has bought them back down to near that level again

Just ask them though, they're the 2nd best G5 conference and maybe in a year or two will surpass the MWC...

Morons over there, with Marshall fans leading the charge
