Arkansas #1 RB Jonathan Williams
Injured his foot in yesterday's(Saturday's) scrimmage. Word on the message boards is it's a broken ankle. Officially it's a foot injury and he'll be out an extended period of time.

Given all the injuries to our RBs the last few years, it's easy to feel their fan's/team's pain if not his. Hope he makes a full recovery.

RE: Arkansas #1 RB Jonathan Williams
From the Little Rock Demorcat-Gazette online:
Jonathan Williams' gimpy walk off the turf at Reynolds Razorback Stadium during Saturday's scrimmage was much more serious than initial indications.
Williams will have to undergo surgery on his left foot and will miss an extended period of his senior season, the Razorbacks announced in a release on Sunday.
"This is no doubt a tough moment, but I know through my faith and hard work that I will make a full recovery," Williams said in the release.
Trainer Matt Summers walked with Williams as he gingerly made his way to the sideline after his 11th carry, a run up the middle for no gain during a move-the-ball segment in the second half of the scrimmage.
Coach Bret Bielema said after the scrimmage that Williams had a tender ankle, but further examination revealed the need for surgery on his foot. The university set no time frame on a possible return for Williams.
Next man up is Junior Alex Collins (5'11", 215#) who JUST rushed for 1,100 yards (90 less than Williams and scored 12 TDs (the same as Williams). The number of rushes were nearly identical with Williams (6'1", 223#) having seven more carries. Collins was a five-star recruit. There is competition for backup RBs with current projects having combo back Kody Walker (6'2", 256#) moving up to the No. 2 spot at tailback, with redshirt sophomore Denzel Evans (5'11", 222#) and true freshman Rawleigh Williams III (5'10". 215#) also in the mix.
Head Coach Bielema will address the media at 11:30 a.m. CT today.

Amen! This is his senior year; Williams considered entering the NFL draft but over his Christmas break decided to return for his last season. "Tweaking" an ankle is one thing; needing surgery is another.

ESPN also has Kareem at 215 lbs. UT's athletic website has him at 6'0"
225 lbs. Since he was a young Freshman(Hunt), I wouldn't be surprised at the growth just like Swanson packing on about 20 lbs after last season.

Well, we did have Zac Rosenbauer at 275 as well. I remember seeing Steve Schnitkey on campus my first day and thinking how enormous he was (I think 215). Still, those are big guys.

Schnitkey(The Archbold Assasin) played at around 195 in the middle, with John Niezoda being around 210. The tackles, Willie Duke and Mel Long were 225 and 230 pounds. That was one helluva mean defense !!

I really hate it for Jonathan. He skipped the NFL draft last year to come back and now this happens. Collins is good too but he isn't half the pass blocker and receiver that JWill is.
We'll probably have to play a true freshman behind Collins now so who knows how that will turn out. Either him or Kody Walker who has split time at FB.

UMASS leaving the MAC
I figure they would be gone later then sooner. They haven's even been close in winning their division outright. Now they are going independant looking for another conference, I presume they want in the American Conference to play the likes of UCONN, Navy, Temple. I don't like teams coming into the MAC for football only, just to park their mediocre football team in the hopes they get invited to a bigger conference and leaving the MAC. Temple comes to mind.
Now If Akron down grades their football program, do they stay in the MAC for basketball only. That would leave the MAC with 11 teams. I would like to see Western Kentucky join the league for football and basketball. I can't think of any other football teams willing to come into the MAC around the Midwest, with the exception of North Dakota State, a very good football subdivision school. They have beaten the likes of Ball State and Kansas on the road in the recent past.

RE: Arkansas #1 RB Jonathan Williams
Well the unsaid thread here is that this helps our chances. Personally, I don't like seeing anyone get seriously hurt, but am happy for some sprained ankles and minor injuries slowing down the powerhouse teams on the schedule. Tough for this kid to come back when he would have been drafted and then have this happen. Arkansas's deepest positions are said to be online and rb so his loss shouldn't be a major problem. However, it means a younger or less complete p!ayer will be playing more. This meant maybe a dropped pass, fumble missed block. Regardless, we have to play great and take advantage of opportunity to win. NIU looked competitive against them last year early but made mistakes and then lost confidence and got blown out. We can't repeat the Missouri and Florida pattern of playing competitively but not converting in the red zone.

Welcome to the Lauchpad Springboromark. In watching UMASS, I thought they were by far the most improved team in the MAC East last year. The Rockets had their hands full with the Minutemen in the GB.
