Schnitkey(The Archbold Assasin) played at around 195 in the middle, with John Niezoda being around 210. The tackles, Willie Duke and Mel Long were 225 and 230 pounds. That was one helluva mean defense !!
Wow, you remember Steve Schnitkey and the 5 Assisins from Archbold? Four of the 5 started for the Rockets during the 1969 - 1971 win streak. Schnitkey at NG, Bob Rose at End, Randy Pape at OLB?, and Lynn Aschliman at Center. Bruce Arthur was 1st team All MAC QB in 1972. All 5 from small town Archbold.

How about Tom Beutler, John Schneider, and Roland Moss?

Now If Akron down grades their football program, do they stay in the MAC for basketball only. That would leave the MAC with 11 teams. I would like to see Western Kentucky join the league for football and basketball. I can't think of any other football teams willing to come into the MAC around the Midwest, with the exception of North Dakota State, a very good football subdivision school. They have beaten the likes of Ball State and Kansas on the road in the recent past.

Also long jumped over 21' in high school and placed 1st in state track meet. Not bad for a defensive lineman. To my understanding, no one could block him.

RE: Arkansas #1 RB Jonathan Williams
one of the best nose tackles in the country in the 1968 season was Ohio State's Jim Stillwagon and he was also about 6' and maybe 210. I believe he was 1st team all-American and never made it in the pros. Was so quick off the ball that he rarely got blocked. I remember Schnitkey being compared to him often. A couple years later, there was another nose tackle that was the same mold - Nebraska's all-American Richard Glover. Also not much if any of a pro career. About the same size. Great college players.
